A Project Coordinator may typically be found in what type of organization?

A. Strong Matrix

B. Weak Matric

C. Projectized

D. Functional

 

The correct answer provided is "C". Is this correct. I thought it would be "Weak Matrix".

C is definitely wrong answer. I would go for Weak Matrix.

BTW, if the same question would be asked about Project Expediter, what would be the right answer? I believe, it would be Functional. Please correct me if I am wrong.

functional organization will be headed by pure (100 %)  functional manager.


projectized organization will be headed by pure (100%) project manager


strong matrix organization will be headed by almost by PM , not reporting to FM.


weak metrix organization  will have co-ordinator or expideter.


hence B will be the answer.

As per my understanding and research both Project Coordinator & Expeditor are in Weak Matrix organization type.

Project Expediators are most likely found in Functional Organizations. Although sometimes in Weak Matrix as well, but called as Coordinators who report to a little higher level.

 Weak Matrix: In weak matrix, the project manager has a part time role with very limited power and authority. His role will be more like a coordinator or an expediter. Weak matrix structure is very close to the functional organization structure. In weak matrix structure, the functional manager controls the project budget.
