The correct answer is Earned
The correct answer is Earned value because you calculate your CV, SV, SPI and CPI to determine if you project is ahead/behind schedule or budget.
Variance analysis is done to control scope and not project performance

Control scope = Variance Analysis
while
Control cost = Earned value management
I don't know why there is no Earned value managment in Control Schedule as in Control Cost.

For control schedule, i see
For control schedule, i see Variance Analysis under the Techniques ( Performance reviews )
vs. for scrope it's a main Tool and Techniques.
But :
just to say that
In Techniques Performance review in Control Sehedule you have Earned value management and in the text it says :
Variance analysis can be performed..... to identify variances between the schedule baseline and actual project performance
