Project Charter - customer approval

is customer approval required on Project charter?

 In Some cases the customer can be the sponsor , and hence customer can sign/approve the charter I believe. In normal case if the sponsor is internal , you don't need an approval from the customer on the charter.

 

Please correct me if I am wrong.

For external customer you are working as project manager you ensure you have project charter signed by customer.

For internal project, then Sponsor would sign the project charter.
