Stuck at 60% score in Practise Exams

Hi,

 

I have been studying Rita and PMBOK for at least 2 times thoroughly. Everytime it seems I have covered enough. When I try Rita's simulation, it gives me around 60% and sometime below 50%.

Am I missing anything ?

In my observation after considering PMZilla LL, I realised,

1. Need to study and memorize the processes

2. Need to memorize the ITTO and the Formulas

3. Do I need to study some other book like Andy Crowe ? Would combination of Rita and Andy create confusion ?

For all those experienced PMP aspirants and PMP certified's I need YOUR help here.Please guide in here.

Try to get atleast 70%. I would say just find the gaps in understanding from the tests, and when you take it again, you should score around 80%..

You can read other books, but wont be of any major help.

Dont memorize ITTOs and Processes just understand them thoroughly and memorize Formulaes... Try securing 70-80%....... Rest Assured ...........

Hi DipB,

 

I will strongly urge you to also read one of the following books (suggested in order of preference:

- HeadFirst

- Andy Crowe's

- Kim Heldman

It will actually make the concept more clear (it did to me when I first read KimH and then HeadFirst).

Hi Dipb,

I would suggest you that rather than going for other books as mentioned above please re-read Rita and PMBOK and emphasize on PMBOK. Develop a thinking based on these two and crack the NUT. This is based on my personal experience.

I memorized the ITTOs the morning of the test and I wouldn't have passed without them. Some questions hint or even call out the process groups / knowledge areas in the scenarios. Without knowing the ITTOs, it'll be hard to isolate the correct answers.  It should only take you only a few hours to memorize ITTOs. It's the best investment of your study time.

I've posted in other threads the specific steps that I took to pass the PMP however, answering a quesiton like this allows me to go into greater detail about what is great about the PMzilla community.  PMzilla was one of my primary sources for passing because it provided me a wealth of information from people who passed &/or failed the test.

One of the piece of information that helped me tremendously was reading about how to learn the ITTOs for the test.  There are certian ITTOs that are mission critical as they relate to the overall process and if you know the overall process/concepts the rest will fall into place.

Other than what that thread suggested as the most important ITTOs, I didn't spend a lot of time studying them because i was more focused on the processes & concepts (which include the ITTOs).  As long as I had that down I wasn't worried and my strategy was validated in my first time passing.  However, I will state that being able to replicate Table 3-1 (Process Groups & Knowledge Areas Matrix) from the PMBOK was invaluable and offset the time not spent cramming the ITTOs outside of their processes.

being able to replicate ALL of the formulas within 5 minutes is a must.  During the 15 minutes tutorial, at the beginning of the test, I replicated table 3-1 and all the formulas.

Jigshaw, after going through various articles and PMZilla topics and also attending Rita's exams I realised that studying the ITTOs is really important. Would you be kind enough to provide me some tips as to which are the ones you feel is more important.

To your original question, I suggest that the amount of preparation that was put forth may need a little more acceleration.
You might want to understand where your gaps are..
Its okay to get 60% but be advised that you need more preparation in order to secure 70-80% in practice exams.
As explained in Rita's book, you might want to pay a closer look and analyse each of the incorrect answer as to what factors/analysis accounted to get that wrong to what was actually explained in the right answer.
PMI's methodologies are not only a way of Managing Projects but also a way of thinking that could be applied to any area.So, understanding the context of where we are in the Project life cycle is the key to pick up the right answers.


As for the Tools and Techniques, I suggest you understand them and know when each of those are used & the differences between them. There will be significant questions on Tools and Techniques especially on Risk, Quality & Procurement knowledge areas.
As for inputs and outputs, based on my experience, i was prepared to the extent of identifying which process produced what.

To score a 60% in the exam you have to study more try to solve more problems and try to analyse all the answer after reading any chapter.to score in any exam you have to keep the good momentom in all the subjects.you have to keep your paper clean and neatness should maintain. so do more hard work and score well. thanks a lot keep it up.
