Question about type of organization

Hello,

This is the question:

i have to manage a new project over a 4 years period. This project involves a lot of technologies and i have to work with a lot of experts and also i will have to manage more than 200 people. What type of organization will best fit to use for finishing this project:

1. functional

2. projectized

3. weak matrix

4. strong matrix

I guess it will be projectized type, regarding the huge amount of people to be managed and the PM will have full control over resources. What do you think?

Yes should be projectized due to long duration and as you said for PM to have more control over resources.

I am not entirely convinced that the answer here is Projectized.


In my opinion, projectized can definitely work but a strong matrix would be a better option as it is mentioned that various/many technologies will be used. One would assume that this is scarce skill needed and could ultimately be leveraged off the functional organisation. Secondly, if it is a strong matrix, most power lies with the PM in any case - control is not a huge concern then. Thirdly, we are talking about one project, not multiple and this may not be feasible on the present circumstance.

 The answer is Strong Matrix. The question if from PmZilla tough questions and i made a lot of research to find out why this is the right answer . I keep my opinion that the right answer is projectized, but i know it is strictly related to strong matrix, i can not find any suitable argument to be sure that strong matrix in indeed the right one....
