Perform Integrated Change Control

Can someone help me understand this statement in PMBOK Pg 97 point3 Change Requests - "Corrective and Preventive actions does not normally affect the project baselines, only the performance against the baselines".


Till now my understanding was the corrective or preventive actions recommended in change requests can cause changes to the project baselines.

Lets say your defects are more than the estimated defects during the course of you project you do and RCA , to find that incompetency of people resulted in more defect injection and hence more defects. You arrange for documentation and ask the team to go through it before coding. THis action may not result in cost or schedule increase. so i may not normally impact the baseline, but you are sure that improved competency will result in fewer defects which mean it will impact the performance against the baseline.


The key here is it may not normally increase the baseline, does not mean it will NOT impact, I can increase the cost or schedule and hence impact the baseline.

Thanks for a good explanation. Yes I did get some clarity as I went further with the chapter and agree with your comments.
