Crashing Question - What is the correct answer along with reason
Five tasks have to be completed one after another in your project. The Contract with your Sponsor contains very strict penalties for delays. The schedule reveals that the project has a negative float of three months, which of the following task(s) should be crashed to bring the project on schedule? Please refer to the table given below:
Task Original Duration (months) Crash Savings (months) Original Cost Crash Cost
M 5 1 $1,600 $1,700
N 6 2 $1,800 $1,900
O 7 1 $2,000 $2,050
P 8 1 $3,000 $3,200
Q 13 3 $2,500 $2,650
Choice 1 Task Q

Crashing of both Task Q and
Crashing of both Task Q and (Task O and Task N) will save 3 months and would cost 150 $. But as the schedule has a negative float which means it is a critical path, we should see the activity at the earlier in critical path. Hence we should Crash Task N and O.
I would go with Choice 2.
May I know the answer please ?
Thanks,

Hi
As the question is stating that we have negative float of 3 months..so we need to crash the schedule (3 months) for min increase in the cost.
If you see that Either task Q can be crashed for 3 months as the increased cost is 150 Rps or Task N and Task O can be crashed together as here also the increase in cost is 150 for 3 months.
So the answer will be Choice 3rd.
