Passed PMP - 4P/1MP, 09 Jul 15

Hi,

I passed PMP in 1st attempt with score of 4P/1MP, and thought of sharing my exam/preparation experience while it's fresh in my mind:

preparation experience:

- preparation time 6 weeks

- took 5-day PMP boot camp, this really helped 1. listening is better than self reading, so it was easier to grasp the theory than reading by self 2. discussions led to more thorough understanding of concepts

- read only PMBoK 5th edition

- did 4 mockup exams, same sources mentioned on this site

exam experience:

- very conceptual - wordy situational questions with concepts mingled up - e.g. risk and change mgt. mixed up, HRM and stakeholder mgt. mingled up, many more like this...and 2 answer options were very close...one anwer for change mgt. and other for risk mgt

- highly suggested to clear up the concepts, and i didn't find anything that wasn't worded in PMBoK

- Numerical - ~10 questions - ~7 cost management, ~3 schedule management

- calculations weren't hard but were wordy, so finding out what is asked and which figures to use required a bit of analysis

- ITTO - only 2 questions - tools and techinques

- Questions pattern - my observation from mock exams and real PMP - variablity of questions was higher for first 50 questions, from 100 question onwards knowledge areas/groups were in blocks, 3 questions for initiation, 4 for quality,..so extra conciousness and mind flexibility required for initial questions

- Time - Used all 4 hrs with 10 min break - ran out of time for complete review of marked questions mainly due to wordiness of questions...had to read some questions twice/thrice

- Overall, i would suggest focus on concepts otherwise it would be easy to fall in the trap of this answer sounds right vs this answer is right per PMBoK.

Happy to help if anyone needs more information. I hope above helps

Thanks and Best of Luck
