Passed On July 23th, 3MP, 2BP Lessons Learned

First, I want to thank God, second my family who put up with me during studying, and third of course this forum and all the members either participating actively or passively as I was, I got a lot of tips and answers from this forum, thanks again.

AS Far as the lesson learned from the exam, One most important point that an instructor put it when I took a class at the PMI local chapter, he said" you have to be exposed to the material, at least three times" the first was in the class, the material was taught by Knowledge area, each week-night we went over one knowledge area, and you had the whole week to go over the material on your own for that knowledge arae using PMBOK and Crosswinds.

One of the most important tips especially if you have a long commute like to work like me, I got Andy Crowe's Conversation on PMP and listened to it very frequent.

After the nine weeks of the class were over,I started going over the material on my own from different sources, anything I could have my hands on was a fair trade. and I felt overwelmed for a moment than I started slowing down and siffting through the material I collected, the notes I have taken, the pages I downloaded from this forum ( thanks to everyone for his/her efforts for sharing), I also had my hands on Rita's book, I didn't use it much expet the games that illustrate the flow of info and documents. Yes I did cut those squares and played the pazzle game, it  did help.

Kim Heldma's book is intersting because it makes your second expostion to the material stick more in your memory, UNDERSTAND THE FLOW OF INFORMATION PER PROCESS GROUP. The exam is per Process groups.

One last thing, Please make your self a a brain dump sheet of the Formuals, and page 43 of the PMBOK.

Good lack to everyone and if you need some of the material I used (based on 4th Edition though) , Please email me aknicet at gmail dot com

 Congratulations !

I procrastinated taking the exam twice before, not preparing well and definitely not putting in the hours required to take pass.   So let me be an example to all, that preparation is key in passing this exam.  Here are my observations.

Brain Dump:  I was able to dump all of the EVM and Forecasting formulas, schedule formulas (ES, EF, LS, LF), Comm Channel, PERT, Project formulas (ROI, ROIC, NPV, FV, etc), knowledge areas and mnemonics for all 42 processes.  I still had 4 minutes to spare.  I felt confident that my dump would be a tremendous aid in navigating the exam.  Except for the few occasions to address trick questions and to aid in solving EVM/Forecasting problems, I rarely looked at my dump sheet.  The dump is great but don't rely heavily upon it.  Use it only as a guide to quickly resolve formulas.

Boot Camp/On-line Course:  You'll definitely need a facilitator-led course to help with PMP basics prior attempting self-study.  If you're like me, the PMBOK is a dry read.  I attended a company-sponored Boot Camp called Velociteach.  They provided great tools -- Mind Maps, pyramid illustrations, etc.  You'll need these techniques to organize your information.

I saw some tools in this forum, but can't recall where I got them from.  The use of mnemonics was key for me.  Without them, I could not have retained key tools/techniques from each of the 42 processes.

I studied nearly every day for 7 1/2 weeks.

I did not study the day before the exam.

Good luck and happy studying.
