Need help and direction based on current mock test scores

Hello friends,

I have been following PMZilla for last six months to prepare and learn from good posts around here. I'm aiming to appear PMP exam by end of Apr 2015 and have started writing mock tests. The results of 2 mock tests that i took were not that inspiring.

  • 60.5% in Simplilearn test.
  • 61% in PM Study

I know that i have lot of gaps especially in areas like HR, Risk, Cost and Communication. Have been reading PMBOK and Andy Crowe. Based on your experience, can you please guide me?

I'm thinking to pick Rita M and go thru the pain areas but any ideas/suggestions are very welcome.

Thanks for your time.

Regards, Shantanu.

Hi Shantanu,

You should score around 75% in Pmstudy and Simplilearn tests since they are not on tough side. My personnel advice to you is that you do a PMBOK reading again and then take mock tests. You just have under a month time and it looks short for you. There are some tougher tests like Oliver, Pmzest, Pmzilla and Rita Super PMP etc, you may try taking those as well and see how you score in these.

Roy

Hi Roy,

Thanks for your advise. I will read thru PMBOK to see the gaps.

Yes you can read through Rita and give some more mock tests, try to clock 75% atleast.

Thanks Admin .. trying my best to go thru Rita. Procurement is a vast topic however all other topics i'm getting good handle on based on the Rita book. I will keep my target and proceed with prep. Really want to give the exam by first week of May and get certified.

If you want to improve your test scores, take practice tests by PROCESS GROUP.

This makes sense because the PMP test is graded by PROCESS GROUP.

PMBOK and most complementary books focus on teaching by knowledge area.  That's fine.  But when you practice test, test by PROCESS GROUP.

There, I've said this 3 times.  Make sense?  Hope so :)

Thanks Richard.. this is a great advise. I visited your youtube channel as well. lot of information. looking forward to improve my weak areas and do better on mocks..

Hi All, Admin,

Following the advice, i went thru PMBOK to check on knowledge gaps and have also given quite a few mock tests after that. I need to appear for exam in next 2 weeks however i know that there are areas i can make myself better. Any advise on next mock tests that i should take would be helpful.

OL 75: 61%

Scordo 3: 76%

Scordo 4: 80%

Scordo 5: 76%

Scordo 6: 86%

Scordo 16: 84%

Scordo 17: 78%

PMZilla Paid 1st Set: 65.51 %. Second Set, managed only 40%.  (will complete other sets and bonus 100 questions)

I feel i have taken lot of Scordo sets. Please advise if i should finish Scordo or should look for other sets including: PMZest and Headfirst labs free

Any advise you can give would be very helpful. I have not made a great attempt to memorize ITTOs but do understand and I'm able to solve quite a fwe question on ITTOs.

Thank You, Shantanu!

I feel you are already prepared for the exam now. However I highly recommend Pmzest, Pmstudy and Headfirst practice exams.

Oliver, Pmzilla and Pmzest are tough exam, so scores around 60-65% is a good benchmark.

Best of luck!

Thanks Rohit. I will try PMZest in next few days.

I was wondering if I can send an email to you. You seem to be all ready. My email is sgsjca@gmail.com

Hi, sure you can send me an email. You can post here as well as it will benefit everyone in the group.

Tried OL 175. Got 68.57%. Next step is to focus on weak areas indetified in this test.

Exam scheduled next week.. Attempted Rita FT and scored 77%.

Reviewing gaps in situational/confusing questions that tends you choose between 2 similar choices. Any other suggestions that i should focus are welcome ...

Thank You...
