Cleared PMP Exam - Lessons Learnt for PMP aspirants
Hello Friends,
I would like to share with you the best news that I have cleared my PMP exams with below results and would like to share the lessons learnt. Well, of course, whatever I would mention will be based on my sole research and experience, and it may vary from person to person. However on top of it, this PMZilla forum is amazing. Thanks to all of you and admin for making it happen.
1) Intiating: MP, (2) Planning- P, (3) Execution - MP, (4) M&C-P, (5) Closing-MP.
This was my second attemp and here I am with PMP credentials, as this time I took time and efforts to make it happen unlike my first time which was a careless act as I couldn't spare time to prepare and failed.
So, I would like to share with you my journey.
A) Time to prepare:
I started studing on 12th Jan and finished April 5 2015. On average, I spent 2 hrs daily in the start, and 4-5 hrs on weekends. I booked for exam in feb 14, and from march onwards I started spending 3 hrs daily basis. In total, I studied 200+ hrs in this journey.
B) The books I followed are:
Primarily: PMBOK 5 and Supporting (RITA 8 edition) only
I read in the first go PMBOK5 and it took almost 21 days, and after that I read RITA, which again took 21 days. After completion, I started reading PMBOK chapterwise in synchronization with RITA e.g. while reading Intergation in PMBOK5, I was reading RITA's integration, which made my concepts more clearer.
In total, 2 time PMBOK 5 thoroughly, and 2 times RITA thoughly. I attempted all the execrises in RITA chapters and was getting 70-80 % results.
3) MOCK exams:
I didn't do much mock exams, but I did fewer and sold ones to know whereI am lacking, and that ready made a difference. In total I attempted 750 Questions apart from RITA chapter wise exams.
4) URLs for preparation:
a) First and foremost, this PMZILA site itself was very helpful, as I found some material and notes very fruitful during preparation.
b) http://pmstudycircle.com/2014/
c) https://www.youtube.com/
d) You can find many websites for mock exams, and I would first recommend instead of buying any one, try free ones, as these are very helpful e.g.
I) PMStudy: I refrred this site for Mock exam, you can register for 200 Q and those were really helpful
II) Oliver: 75 Question
III) Izen wesbite: 110 question and 15 numerical question (Must to do)
I hope this information will be helpful for your guys.
IV) if you guys are having iPhone or Android, download the PMRITA application and PMStudy very helpful to memorize ITTOs
e) General, I printed all the 10 knoweldge areas along with ITTOs, in my room, while reading I was referring to them to make connections in concepts. Do not try to do rotafication, try to get the concepts like inputs outpuf of Direct and manage work is "Work performance data" and deliverables", what do we do with this? e.g. Work performance data is a raw data and is required in all monitoring and controlling processes and "Input", and deliverables is a unique outcome that needs to be checked for correctness so it goes as input to "Control Quality". Likewise, you can link and develope concepts.
I hope you can get benefit out of what I have explained above.
Good luck to all.
