PMBOK v5 - passed on my 2nd attempt
I passed the PMP exam on Friday 13, 2015 (Friday the 13th!) after failing on my first attempt. At first I used general logic, things I've learned over 6 years of project management instead of PMBOK logic. I immediately scheduled my second exam and tried again in 10 days - passing with Moderately Proficient across all 5 areas. I kept thinking "what would PMBOK v5 say" and answered all questions with that thought in mind. I took the Project Management Academy Bootcamp which consists of 4 days training. I chose the virtual option and scheduled it on two separate weekends with a practice exam on the last day, only scoring a 62%. I took it twice more and scored a 66% and then a 75%. They recommend 80% but I was confident with 75%.
I searched online for supplemental training and found Richard Kraneis' YouTune channel. This was helpful as it helped solidify my understanding of the 47 processes. I sat down and charted them out, time and time again, until I could do it all from memory in about 6 minutes. DO THIS. It's very difficult to start but keep practicing. I think it took me 90 minutes and about 15 attempts until I had it down. Once you know where all 47 processes exist in relationship to each other, the rest of the ITTOs fall into place. It started bringing all of the knowledge areas together into a framework. Here is the link http://youtu.be/yPoi3zcPaPg
The exam WILL try to confuse you. I noticed this especially toward the end where words like all, none, best, always started popping up in the answers. These are dangerous words, be careful if you see them.

Thanks from Richard Kraneis, PMP
John,
Thank you for your kind review.
I think it's very impressive that you failed the test, were NOT disappointed, re-scheduled in 10 days, and then passed the test.
I'm glad my YouTube videos and my 47 processes spreadsheet helped you.
I think you serve as a great example to people on this website who need to pass the PMP test on the 2nd try.
Best Wishes on Using Your PMP Credential,
