Is there a minimum score in all 5 process?
Submitted by keshav_pmp on Sat, 12/27/2014 - 17:50
I have confusion on whether we need to score minimum in each process? What is the mandatory scoring percentage in each process? or it is a aggregate of all 5 process scores whatever the scores in each process?

The only think I know is you
The only think I know is you must get 61% of the answers right. , you can be BP in few and MP in few , overall you must get 106 answers right.

I dont think so....
In fact the passing percentage is also not same for all the candidates. It is different for different individuals and is based on the level of difficulty of the exam. I also feel that there weightage is not same for all the questions. For example if you get a tough question correct, you get more score as compared to a straight forward question, which makes sense too.
Also the 61% is myth, I just now passed the exam on December 26th and I feel the passing percentage is more than 70. It is based on my assessment of the exam and can be speculative, but others can comment if they have had different experience during the exam.

PMI has stopped publishing
PMI has stopped publishing the passing % etc ... and hence you need to aim for aournd 141+ correct of the 200 questions. In your mock exams you should aim for 80-85% and then you are in a good shape to appear for the exam. If you are a PMI member then do make sure to solve the questions from the Christopher Scorodo and try to consistently scroe arond 80% especially the lite 14 to 18 exams.
Also the score is not adaptive ... so there is no additional score for difficult questions all questions have the same score .. i.e. 1. The questions donot change as you go along in the exam.. the 200 questions get loaded once your exam starts and those donot change.

I am not saying
I am not saying that all questions do not have equal weitage, its PMP who says it. I am quoting the relevant section from PMP handbook below
"The passing score for all PMI exams is determined by sound psychometric analysis. PMI uses subject matter experts from across the globe to help establish a point at which each candidate should pass the exam(s) and the exam point of difficulty. Data that show how candidates actually performed are cross referenced with the subject matter experts to ensure that the point of difficulty on each exam is healthy"
If you have heard about psychometric analysis, you will know that there is no set benchmark % value which qualifies for passing percentage, rather it varies from exam to exam based on the difficulty level of the exam.
200 questions are selected randomly before the start of exam as we all know, and random selection means some exams will be more difficult and some will be less.
This makes the psycometric analysis all the more logical and required since the set of selected questions do not change, so it doesnt make sense to evaluate one candidate on difficult exam and other on relatively easier.
I hope it is more clearer now.

Thanks Shaan, I understand
Thanks Shaan, I understand the Psycometric tests ... my understanding is that every question has one mark and it is balanced by selecting simple, medium and complex questions evenly for each exam.
