My PMP Experience - First attempt / 2 months / 2P + 3MP
I passed my PMP today so thought to share my experience with you all.
Started my journey this July 28th and gave myself 2 months target. I was not very much occupied with office work so could easily gave around 2 - 3 hrs daily for the preparation, except few odd days. In the last 2 weeks I gave around 4 - 5 hrs daily.
I got my 35 Hrs PDU from simplilearn - though it was nice and crisp online course (without tutor) but definitely not sufficient to understand all the topics required to clear the exam.
I read PMBOK once then read Rita 8th edition twice. In my view Rita Mulcahy is one of the best book available in the market. I would strongly suggest to do all the exercises as well, it really helped me to understand my gaps.
For practice test -
I used Oliver's 75 and 175 Question - got around 65% with 75Q and ~70% with 175Q
Simlilearn - 73% and 76.5% there were two exams
pmstudy - ~74%
So I was definitely not above 75% in my practice exam, actually it made me bit nervous as I read in some other post that one should get above 80% to be safe on the real exam.
I also used Ravi Nair and Abhishek's notes. In fact modified them as per my need, esp ITTO chart.
I did nt memorize ITTO but gave good amount of time to understand each and every process and why given I/p, O/p and T&T are used. It is very well explained in Rita. Also Rita's process chart is price less - It helped me to answer atleast 10 questions in the exam.
The real exam was little more difficult then pmstudy free test but was very close to that. There were lots of questions on Risk Management, Theory X and Y, Stages of Teams building (forming, storming, norming...), Communication channel, quality assurance and Control quality. Few questions on with CPI /SPI but I found it more difficult then what we have available in the free tests.
Also few easy question on Network diagram. I found 4 hrs a bit less to answer 200 question, though I attempted all the questions but I had to rush at the end.
To be honest after 4 hrs I was not sure whether I will pass it but finally it happened :) and I got 2P (Planning and M&C) and 3MP. :)
Hope my experience will help you, wish you all the best and let me know if you need any suggestion or clarifications.
Cheers

I have just started preparing for PMP exam. I have few questions.
What is the PMP exam Code ?
what are the latest editions for PMBOK and Rita Mulcahy ?
Would you be able to share the latest editions ?
Many thanks in advance!

Hi Kandi,
Hi Kandi,
Not sure of PMP Code but you dont need it as you apply directly thru pmi.org. check this link
http://www.pmi.org/Certification/Project-Management-Professional-PMP.aspx
I studied PMBOK 5th edition and Rita Mulcahy 8th edition. I had purchased hard copy of Rita. PMBOK softcopy is free for members and available at pmi.org. If you are serious then take the pmi membership as it will give you discount in the certification fee as well as provide free PMBOK.
Other option is check at torrents sites where you can find both Rita and PMBOK but beware it is against copyrights :-)

Hi Spark!
Hi Spark!
Thank you so much for your quick response. I am a member at pmi.org. I would try to acquire the free PMBOK then.
Also, do you know any dumps that would have questions for PMP exam ?? Would dumps help clear the PMP exam ?
Thanks,
Kandi.

Hi Kandi,
Hi Kandi,
Sorry but I'm not aware about such dumps. As I said earlier few mock tests (pmstudy.com) are close to PMP level. Try pmstudy only after you complete PMBOK and Rita (both) at least once so that you can identify your gaps.
If you have some extra bucks then I would even suggest to take paid tests from pmstudy, I think they charge $25 for two tests. Though I did nt try these as I attempted my first free pmstudy very close to my exam date.
All the best....

Hi KA,
Hi KA,
Thanks..
I did used few notes (Rajesh Nair and Abhishek) from this forum but I did nt get the time to go through everything, these notes are too detailed. Actually I was just looking for list of formulas and Excel based ITTOs so that I can add my own comments.
All the best...
