Application for PMP

Hi
Just some doubts in my mind, so would like to clarify with experts here.
I have over 16 years of experience in the software industry. During the Past 7 years, I was a Sr. Project Manager in a software firm based in Bangalore. So, during that time, I have had experience managing projects and that I can document in all of the 5 Knowledge Areas.

Over the past 4 years, I work in Kuwait for a Govt. Enterprise with the position of "Prinicipal Programmer Analyst".
I am in the senior cadre, handling more tasks in the Planning, Executing and Controlling Process Areas not much in the initiating process.

My question to experts is: will I be able to pass the Application process typically because of my job title in my present organization.

Any comments are please welcome.

Thanks
Regards
Santosh

yes, You just need to show 4500 hours of project management expertise... you probably will have more than that considering your experience.

I also believe you are good to go for PMP, you may check our video on PMP FAQs , it covers many such PMP Certification related questions.

Your job title and the role you have in your organization are not the same. Just be sure you demonstrate that you are working projects by using 'PMI language' such as 'developed x, monitored x, closed timely' etc.

This is a great question. To qualify for the PMP you must have the following:

A secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree, or the global equivalent) with at least five years of project management experience, with 7,500 hours leading and directing projects and 35 hours of project management education.

OR

◾ A four-year degree (bachelor’s degree or the global equivalent) and at least three years of project management experience, with 4,500 hours leading and directing projects and 35 hours of project management education.

You can use project work you have done at work, home, volunteering, as well as if you worked on projects while enrolled at a university or learning institution. You would go to PMI.org and fill out their application online. PMStudy.com has free resources to assist you as well.
I mentor project managers and would be happy to help you determine how your experience fits the project management application. Feel free to email me at frances.t@pmstudy.com
