Can troubleshooting issues be recorded as project hours

I have been in the IT field for 15 years and most of my work has been in the troubleshooting field. My new position is more project oriented but still over half my time is troubleshooting. Can any of these hours be used for project management? Some of them can take 10-20 hours of work to resolve with managing developers as well as our application specialists to work through a given solution.

Thanks, Brian

Brian-

I guess no.. coz while you apply for PMP certification.. you need to mention how much hrs of exp u have in .. Initiation, Planning, Monitoring & Control and Closing.. and I believe .. in ur field.. these phases are not involved..

Troubleshooting is a value added process in PMI Methodology. I can better help you if I knew more. Is it possible for you to contact me at frances.t@pmstudy.com? I mentor PM and am more than willing to see how you fit into the process itself. I don't charge and am more than happy to assist you.

Brian,
As a project manager, one of your main roles is Monitoring and Controlling Project Work (which is a specific process in the PMBOK). PMs typically spend about 90% of our time communicating - that includes troubleshooting. It seems to me you have the very definition of M/C Project Work. I used www.PMstudy.com for my exam. You might want to contact them as they will assist in making sure your application for the exam is appropriate.
