Early contract termination

Hi guys, I'd like to pick your brains on something:

For example, we have hired a third party company to do some work for us for 10 months. At the 8th month, the job is finished. Do we terminate the contract and pay them for the 10 months worth of work? Or do we do something else? Thanks.

The decision will be based on cost-benefit.

If giving them 2 months of work is helping you then go ahead. Else there is no need to give them extra work for 2 months. Mutually discuss and agree upon closing the current contract.

I would think contractor would want 2 months more work  - just guessing - to maintain relationship if you want to give them 2 months or work that is also fine, just make sure you are getting returns.
