Question:Regarding Shortening Critical Path

I came across the question that if you have to crash one of many activities on the critical path which one you choose larger duration or smaller duration (no foinacial data provided) and why.

If you crash a larger duration activity it may be less effort. A task taking 100 hours may be easy to crash, you can add a resource and expect it to complete early.

For smaller tasks say 10 hours, adding resource may not provide as much benefit as there will be some rampup time required to get the resource.

Also by Pareto rule, you should always separate critical few from Trivial Many. Crashing one large task may be more practical then focussing on crashing several small tasks as it will consume more management bandwidth.

Having said all this, it really depends on the scenario.

Thanks Admin

That is what I wanted to clarify.Excellent explanation.
Thanks again for quick reply.
