Still this is a big doubt for me …..

For the question of : “What is the correct and pmi recommended method for network diagramming; is it beginning with 0 OR 1? “ have no nay clear answers. May comments on this says—both are correct , use what you are familiar… but if you get a question like I have attached herewith , you defiantly will end up with 2 different answers , so how we know what would be the examiners methods ????

This was the q.106 of Head First

When confusion the method used in PMBOK v5 examples should win.

Can you be more specific please ...?

I think the reference is to follow PMI that does not factor into account the computerized methodology for exam purposes. However, they should be clear in the question. This is what I plan to do, follow the standard process (end of day convention) which starts with a zero, unless asked to use the beginning of day convention used by computer programs. The formulas that I have for the beginning of day convention are as follows:

Max + 1

ES+Dur-1

J

LS-Dur+1

Min-1

If you tak out the '1' from each of the formulas, then the same  is true for the end of day convention.

Note: J is the activity, Max and Min are for the predecessor and successor respectively. I am sorry, the above does not still answer your question, but this is as close as I can get to answering it. Several mock tests use the Begin-of-day convention while Rita completely ignors it and so does PMBoK and use End of day in calcs.

Thanks Stakeholder,

I can clearly understand what you say and the logic of network diagramming. however i'm asking is: if you get a question such exact smiler to the attached one (they havent say that they follow start with "0" or 1) you may get two answers (pls just go through the question ).

as you told, both methods are Ok for A-to-Z question but this type of question talk on a middle activity, so how do we know what was the start with out saying ?????????

I noted in PMBoK (page 177) has an example that I think was mentioned by someone else on your question. The example uses the 1 instead of 0 in the example. It does not mention about what to follow and what not as in the case of other books or literature. So if it comes in my exam, I will use PMBoK's approach only...

This is Critical Path Method. We start at 0 unless they tell you otherwise. They could state 1 day after start which would then start at 1.
