Proficient in all 5 domain i.e. 5 "P"s, Exam Result: Pass (1st Attempt, Prep time: July 15th to Sep 20th)

Dear All,

Yesterday (23rd Sep 2013), I cleared PMP exam with being declared as "Proficient" in all 5 domains.

5 'P's and I was so elated that I intentionally raised my hand and called the invigilator just to show off. I could not have yelled or expressed myself in any better way at that instance.

I am a person from construction field and have 8 years of work experience in hard core construction. I started preparing for this exam from 15th July and slotted the exam for 23rd Sep. Actually my application got audited by PMI (Don't know why?) and that further delayed my shceduling process.

On the day of exam I drank a lot of water (4-5 glasses) in the morning and for that I had to take 4 breaks which actually killed 20-25 min of my exam time. Every time I had to put my sign on some official doc and was being thoroughly frisked after the pee break and then again I had to put my sign with checking in time details. When I asked for the 5th break, the invigilator, an American lady obstructed me in doing so. She explained to me that in PMP exam, maximum breaks allowed are 4. Very Imp to remember- Max 4 breaks allowed.

I could n't answer first 4-5 questions, I started thinking that the questions were very tough. In 1st 10 min I was able to reach question no 9 with 5 questions skipped. Gradually time spent became equal to question no with many questions skipped. My strategy was to reach question no 200 as early as possible, just to make me feel that I can be done with the exam in the sense I have tried all approachable questions. I reached question no 200 at the closure of 3 hours and 10 mins (which includes all the pee breaks). I was left with 50 min and so many skipped and marked questions. But those 50 min were enough for me as I was completely out of stress and could believe that I have good chances of passing the exam.

Before clicking the end, I thought I would pass and not with P but with MP in almost all domians. I even recall all the exam questions. During Pee breaks, I recalled the difficult questions while peeing and thought of the most appropiate answers. I think taking 4 breaks for drinking water and going to loo actually eased off the pressure a lot and helped me in innovative and effective thinking.

Then a Survey process started where i clciked the best options just to make PMI happy.

Then came the result Congratulations You passed. Then the evaluation sheet based on the performance in different domains and everywhere it was Proficient.

Regarding the Books: Rita: Just read it for fun. Easiest way to understand PMP processes. But not recommended for exam.

Only One book recommended for exam is: PMBOK. But I never ever completed it. I just would read it for Reference purpose. Not a Legible Book not because of its legibility issue but because of its tendency to make people drowsy while you open it.

No difficult math questions, many commom sense based but entrapping questions. I can't tell you anymore.

I don't know how far this PMP accolade gonna help me.

My sincere thanks to this great website which amde it really possible. Neither PMBOK nor RITA have guided me the way PMZILLA did. Kudos to its all past & present Gold hearted members.

Best  of Luck to All taking PMP exam.

 Hi Sir,

First of all, congrats on clearing in the first attempt   . I've scheduled my exam for 29th Nov.  I had some questions regarding prep for the exam.

1) planning to read rita mulcahy first to get familair with concepts and move to pmbok, is this the right approach?

2) how many maths questions were there in the exam? i know earned value has close to 12 marks in the exam, is this correct? is it necessary to be completely familiar with critical path analysys and network analysis etc and if yes, which is the best way to go abt it

3) finding it difficult to go over the procurements management chapter, especially topic about contracts. Can you tell me if this topic is very imp for the exam and if any maths questions related to it are asked in the exam

Will appreciate any inputs you could provide.

Regards,

Priyesh Acharya

Dear Acharya Babu,

Thanks!!! All the very best for your exam!!!

Reply to your questions:

1) Reading Rita first and then moving to pmbok is the bestest of approaches.

2) Yes. You are right about both math questions from earned value and about being familiar with CP analysis. The best approach would be understand floats (slacks), forward pass, backward pass. I can help you if you have any specific queries.

3) Understand the processes by understanding each IMPORTANT term independently and then put it all together in synchronised form. I should not tell you anything regrading the questions from the exam; but you must understand each Important term in this knowledge area to answer questions in the exam.

I believe my inputs would be well appreciated!!!

 Dear Friend,

Hearty Congrats and achieving 5P's. Its a dream come true for you and your all hard work has paid u back.

Thanks for sharing LL.

Vishwanath

Is it advisable to showcase 5 P in the Resume?

I would say YES.

No official figures exist but the common belief is that < 5-10% guys achieve an all Proficient score. So I don't see any harm in highlighting it. On LinkedIn, you'll find many who've posted it either as an achievement or at least as a 'flaunt worthy' test score.

P.S. At the same time, there're many who oppose the idea that it is indeed a significant achievement. But then more often than not, they're the ones who never achieved it in the first place! :P
