Passed PMP 5th Edition Test First Try

Hi!  I passed the PMP yesterday first try scoring moderate across all

5 process groups.  They rate you Hightly Proficient, Moderatly Proficient

or Below Proficient on each process group.  I have read that you cannot pass

if you get below moderate on more than one process group.  I took the full 4 hours.

If you are taking the full 4 hours on a 200 questions practice test you will run out of time on the real thing!

Aim to finish practice tests within 3 hours max!

Anway my preparation was as follows:

I took a series of 5 PM classes at the local comminity college

I took a 3 day prep course also at the community college

I ordered Rita Mulcahy's book (has total of 400 questions), CD (over 1500 questions) and flash cards (over 700 terms and topics).  Also ordered Q & A's from the PMBOK through PMI (250 questions).

I studied for about 25 days for 2 hours everyday

Step 1-Made flash cards for all terms in the PMBOK that I didn't know as well as all the formulas.  *the test is all about terms and traditional definitions for words can vary greatly from what PMBOK has.*

Step 2- Review my prep class note book thoroughly and run my flash cards everyday.

Step 3- Answer all questions at end of every chapter in Rita's book and thorougly review the answers.  Her book has great explanations.

Step 4-Do a full 200 question timed exam from Rita CD

Step 5-Do full 200 question timed exam from Q&A book

Step 5-Do full SUPER PMP exam on Rita's CD (this will be the toughest questions form each section)

I was scoring into the 80's on the regular tests I was taking and scored a 70 on the Super test I took

Create a "brain dump" sheet with all the formulas and any tricks you have to remember things and practice writing it out everyday.  As soon as you get into the exam write down everything from your brain dump and then it's all there for you in case you get rattled and go blank during test.

You will notice I did not read Rita's book or the PMBOK although I did do the questions out of Rita's book.

I don't recommend this.  I think the only reason I got away with it was because of the 5 classes I took at the community college tought by one of the leading PMP educators in the country.

All my prep materials are like new and onsale at a discount on ebay if you're interested.

 Congratulations !!

What is the link to the Q and A's through PMI?

Also if anyone else has the Rita's fast track, passed the exam and is done with it, please let me know or please contact.

 J,

Congrats! I am just starting my studies, I found your advice very valuable. Although, I am tempted to buy all the books in the world to help me get the certification ;)

All the best,
