Non-PM (software engineer) with PMP?
Submitted by Sweng5 on Wed, 12/05/2012 - 04:25
I'm a software engineer with 5 years experience who is interested in attaining the PMP cert. Although I do have PM experience and some training (certified scrum master), I would like to remain on the technical side for the near future. Would it make sense to attain the PMP if I'm not a project manager?
My motivations are primarily for the knowledge as well as leaving the door open for future opportunities. Furthermore, most if not all of the costs will be reimbursed by my company

I would rather focus on
I would rather focus on getting more technical knowledge, you can think about PMP some years later. There are enough and more opportunities and good pay in Technical domain itself. You should do PMP only if you are already a PM and are serious about making a career in management.

Non-PM (software engineer) with PMP
I think you can think about PMP few years later. For now it will be advisible for you to take up Agile training. There are many training providers for you to choose from. I did my training from Scrumstudy.com (www.scrumstudy.com). Agile training would be really useful for you.
