PMP Certified
PMP Certified
Cleared the certification last week and I would like to thank all those who take the time to post their study plan , tips and tricks
Reading the LLs on these forums was as much an integral part of my study as the various course materials.
I don't believe that One Size fits all , but it helps to know different view points so that you can tailor them to suit your own - Study plan that is.
Ok So I Cleared with 3 P's and 2 MP's
How long did I study ? 4-5 Weeks. I must add that I had started preparing for PMP some time last year and after few days of study , was not able to go any further due to work commitments.
And my main motivation to finish this time around was the fact that the curriculum is changing end of July
So when I finally made up my mind - Which is some time early June , I realize the paucity of slots in various centers.
Tip #1 - Account for 2-3 weeks for the application process, possibly more if you do get selected for audit.
What books did I use? There are lots of people who recommend Rita , Head First. But I stuck to PMBOK. Went through the book approx. 4-5 times. Only because my concentration levels are not great so to speak.
Other Study materials include - Rajesh Nair notes. (Only for formulae though.)
Pod Casts from Simpli learn ( Especially for Earned Value Techniques, the examples are solid)
SirGantalott Videos on You Tube (Especially For Critical Path Method )
Though I take notes , I never refer back to them , as I fear concepts could get lost in translation. So this time around, I only underlined few key concepts.
Mock Tests- I must say none of the tests come close to what you see on the final exam.
Tip #2- Never pay for mock exams.
In my opinion , Chris scordo's 18 Mock lites are very useful. The complexity increases with every test.
Though I took one or two exam central full lengths and the PM Study ( Yes I paid , I wish I hadnt) and scored between 70 and 85%, the only one I found worthwhile is Chris scordo's 18 Mock lites. The complexity increases with every test. My recommendation would be to reserve 1 week for these mock tests. And that should do.
Practice sitting through 4 hours.- Now this is a challenge , all my mock tests(the full length ones) , in spite of frequent breaks , I always always finished well with in 2 hours. This was not the case on the exam day.
Tip #3 Brain Dump , To dump or Not to?
I never considered dumping the 42 processes. I agree with the lady or the gentleman on this forum that once said - if you have to rely on the brain dump then you are not ready.
However , What I did was did a brain dump of the formula but never had to refer back. Plus the invigilator in the test Centre demanded that I return the first book if I need to borrow the next.
And I scribble a lot, and used up my first book soon enough.
So - A word of caution for those of you who like to use the brain dump technique. Please check with your test Centre on the rules.
I never read the EULA.
Well I guess that's about what I had to share.
Good luck for all the aspirants and Thanks to PMZillites once again

Congrats. I have to say that
Congrats. I have to say that I disagree with your post that PMStudy exams are not close to the real exam. I (as well as many others on this forum) found their exams to be similar to the real exam in terms of the type of questions asked and level of difficulty.
I just don't want people to think that these practice exams are not useful
