Cleared the PMP exam, July 19!!!

 Whew, it's finally over! I sat in for the PMP exam this morning and after four long hours, I passed. This has personally been a long road for me. I first took this exam in May 2011 after only having been a project manager for 6 months or so. Our company had Velociteach come in and teach about 20 PM's in our office. Very ineffective. With the lack of preparation and experience, I was doomed from the start. I failed the first time, scoring below proficient in all but two areas. I studied over the following weeks and took it again in June 2011. Failed that time as well. After that, I decided it was not the right time for me to take the exam. 

Several months back, I decided I wanted to try it again. I scheduled a training course with PMTI, which was this week. I read Rita's book for about a month prior to taking this training course. I utilized the resourced PMTI provided online last weekend before the training course. The training course was 7:30pm-6:30pm Monday-Thursday this week. It was quite vigorous. I will say, this was an extremely well put together training course. In addition to the course, I studied every night about 3-4 hours a night. I put in about 65 hours this week of studying (including the training course). The test was at 8:30am this morning. I woke up around 5:30 and reviewed all the ITTO's one last time, which definitely helped. 

As far as the actual test goes, I utilized 3 hours and 45 minutes of the 4 hour allotted time. I skipped over all the EVM and PDM questions on the first pass. The second pass I focused on marked questions I was unsure of. On the third pass, I solved all the EVM and PDM questions (25 total!!!). I cannot stress enough the importance of knowing the ITTO's front and back! There was heavy emphasis on risk, quality and time management as well. While I wasn't extremely pleased with my scores, I was still ecstatic that I passed. After failing it several times before, my self-confidence was rather low. My scores are below. 

 

Initiating-Moderately Proficient 

Planning-Below Proficient

Executing-Proficient

M&C-Moderately Proficient

Closing-Moderately Proficient 

On a side note, how long will it take for the certificate registry to update? Also, the PMI ID that is on the examination report, doesn't match my actual PMI ID. Is that normal?

 You are lucky they let you pass with 2MPs, 1BP and 1P. That was close.

Congratzzz, its really very close ..... i am still thinking how PMI calculate the passing criteria.

Are they calculate 100% correct answers only OR also give chance which answers are very close to correct answers??

How many P, MP and BP can be acceptable to pass the exam??

all questions are equal marks OR depend on difficulty level??

Appreciate if someone calrify above

 I've seen people pass with 3 BP and 2 P. All depends on the process groups. Below is how PMI states the test is formatted. As you can see, I scored Proficient in the area that accounts for the most questions and MP in the 2nd highest weighted process group. So I am not sure this is considered close??? Scoring 1 BP is close to not passing? 

 

  1. Initiating the project (13%)
  2. Planning the project (24%)
  3. Executing the project (30%)
  4. Monitoring and controlling the project (25%)
  5. Closing the project (8%)

You'r correct

But If you read the sheet exam

This evaluate 2 kinds

One is How many answers corrects you have.

Second is your knowledge areas on How you are in that domain

Please You dont disturb, If the sheet evaluation shows Pass.

That's all, You are in team, Rest, Drink & continue

 Sounds like you had a long haul but finally did it!  Congratulations and celebrate your achievement!  I passed my exam yesterday and it feels so good!

This is not a close call. Also, like someone else has said on the thread, it's all done now, so relax.
