Go OR NoGo for PMP Exam in 2 weeks time

Guys,

I need your honest opinion as I am totally confused as my PMP exam is in 2 weeks time insufficient prep. This is the situation, my PMP elibility is expiring on 30th July 2013 and so happen it co-insides with PMBOK 4th edition's last exam cycle and from 1st August 2013 all exams will be based on 5th edition.

I sat for PMP once same time last year but I did not get thru. I am now preparing for my 2nd attempt but I have to admit only 20-30% prepared with PMP exams scheduled in 2 weeks time, 23rd July to be specific. I use Rita's PMP exams prep 6th edition as my only source of reading material and I am not even halfway thru the book.

Fortunately, I have the liberty of time to prepare for the exams next 2 weeks providing I contribute max hours everyday but I am rather nervous and confuse if I should bite the bullet and take a risk for the second time OR should I give myself enough time to prepare and postpone the exams say in 3 months time from now and go thru the preparation all over again with the 5th edition?

Please advise...

Many thanks.

Put your best foot forward and try to clear it this time, you already know PMP questions, so you have an advantage. If your eligibility expires, you anyway pay money.

Also there is not a huge difference between 4th and 5th edition.

Thanks for your advise Admin. Do you suggest that I take the risk and go all out for the 28the July? or do it the next round under 5th edition?

2 weeks of preparation is not impossible , it took me 2 full weeks to prepare as well before the exam & my only reference is Rita. Since this will be your 2nd attempt , you should already know what to expect & your weakness in which area. Dedicate a full week to cover all the topic in Rita , don’t just read for the sake of reading , you need to understand , finish up all the exercises within & at the end of each chapter & don’t skip it. Use Rita process chart & play the game (photocopy or just cut them out from the book ) , play at least twice.

There are 13 chapters to cover for your remaining 14 days , hence you need to plan out how many topics you need to cover per day (draw out a calendar & stick it in front of your study table) that way you won’t go off track) . I was able to cover 2 topics per day for the smaller topics , some topics like procurement took me the whole day , so you really need to plan that out as well. You will need a lot of dedication to mentally ready to spend at least 8-12 hrs per day , remember to reserve at least 2 days to focus on mock test , can be full length questions or topics that you feel you are weak. Keep a score sheet of all the test you’ve taken , if you re visit the same test again , make sure you understand why you made the mistake the 1st time around.

Stay calm & don’t panic , take it 1 step at a time & you will succeed. All the best & good luck.

Thanks a lot Raymond, a big sigh of releaf I must admit...I will try to follow your advise and hope to ace thru this grulling test once and for all...
