Passed PMP on July 1

Hello All,

I passed my exam yesterday on 1st try (3 P & 2 MP). I would like to thank this forum for all the valuable information I received. So I felt I must contribute back to the community and help other PMP aspirants. Since I was studying alone, I used to visit this forum often and get useful tips on the resources and learnings. It gave me a feeling that I was part of group which was targeting the same goal :)

Study materials I used:
1) PMBOK (I recommend to read it atleast once after you have read a study guide)

2) Rita Exam Prep book

3) HeadFirst

4) Rita (RMC) Flashcards (reviewed 2 times)

5) Rita (RMC) 2-day bootcamp

Mock Exams I used:

1) Scordo's Mock Lite tests - 18 tests with about 1000 questions (Free for PMI members pmi.org)

2) Exam Central (200 questions - free online)

3) Oliver Leahman's 75 and 175 questions test (Free online)

4) Rita (RMC) FASTrack CD (about 1500 questions)

5) Kim Heldman's review questions (Free for PMI members pmi.org)

6) HeadFirst end of book exam (200 questions)

7) PMStudy Test (200 questions free)

8) Scribd Math questions (http://www.scribd.com/doc/37496292/101-Questions-for-the-PMP-Formula-Stu...) (101 questions free)

9) ITTO practise (http://webgale.com/pmp/itto_4th/index.php) - Great tool

About the exam:

I felt that the exam was difficult than most of the mock tests I had taken. You really need to understand the concept and know its application. Most of the questions are situational based which make you really think hard on what is best to do in this circumstance. (eg: if its a WBS or RACI - you need to know its general definition, what process grp/KA it is in, know its benefits, understand when/how to apply it, is it built by the team/PM/proj mgmt team, what do you do before it, what do you do after it etc.) In other words, think it through and imagine how to use it in real world situations. Also, lots of questions on EV, PV, CV etc. Many times data was not easy to find so you have to understand the situation and derive the data from it and apply the formulaes.

Good Luck to all PMP aspirants!

Congratulations on your PMP. Thanks for posting here

Hi,

Congratulations on your success. Good Work!

Your explanation is very detailed however i got some doubts for you please!

But how long did you study for this exam?

Duration : how many months?

How many hours you spent studying on weekday & weekend?

How often did you take the PMP Mock exams?

Thank you,

Arun

Congrats once again. This is good news.

Arun,

Thanks for the wishes.

My duration of study was about 2 months with 4 hr on weekdays and 7 hours on weekends. I started taking mock tests and exams in the last two weeks prior to the exam. This helped me a lot to identify my strengths, find my gaps, and practise the questions in a timed approach. Although, I took Rita's quizes and HeadFirst's book quizes in the book while I actually studied the chapter.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck!

Thank you for the information! :)
