Passed PMP with 5P

Dear All,

I am really very Glad to share with you all that I have passed PMP Exam on 11th June with Proficient in All Knowlege Areas.

I would like to thanks to all the members of this amezing forum for active participation and suggesstions on various questions.

And here are my LLs:-

Like other exams PMP not only mean to check your knowledge and understanding of the subject but also  it validate one’s ability to apply knowledge skills and use of appropriate tools on various different real time scenarios. It checks how professionally one can behave and manage various situations and take decisions strategically.

One can’t pass the PMP without thorough understanding the Project Management Concept and having real time experience. To have a thorough understanding of the subject one must have to dedicate three to six months sincerely.

The day when it comes in your mind that you want to get PMP certification, you immediately have to become member of PMI in the early stage itself this will be really advantageous than becoming member later.

Books reference (Priority wise):

1.       PMBOK - In one term I can describe this book as a Bible for Project Managers and highest priority tool for PMP exam preparation. Generally during first or second reading of this book, one may find that the language used is not so friendly, but second reading onward it becomes very friendly.

PMBOK reading strategy: while reading this book you seat with one highlighter and note pad and while reading highlight each and every sentence or paragraph which you find important, then prepare one single line question on the sentence which you highlighted. On next day you seat and take only note pad and answer the entire questions which you had prepared and so on. This is very effective way on developing hands on PMBOK. The time up to you get prepared for your PMP exam you may have your own prepared such 500 to 600 hundred questions.

2.        Rita Mulcahy – All tricks of the trade and sample question given at the end of each chapter are immensely important. During real PMP or practice Mock exam there may be some questions which contains the words or concept which you didn’t find in PMBOK, you can get it and understand it from this book. The language of this book is simple and one can understand quickly. While preparing through this book adopt the above mention strategy here also.

3.       Andy Crowe: reading for one time may be suggested but not mandatory.

Strategy to answer the Questions:

Doesn’t matter how many questions you solved and form whichever source, it is sure, out of that not a single question will be appearing in your real PMP exam. Most of the questions are generally scenario based to asses one’s ability as a Project manager Professional. Hence while answering the questions one must have to keep/visualize in mind that he is PM for large scale project, cost more than $10 million and having team size of 200.

In scenario based questions generally they asked like what should you do next and what should you do, so in what should you do next scenario they expect your immediate response and in what should you do they expect long term solutions. Be very cautious which contains the words like not, except, process group and knowledge area etc. After reading the question conclude that what actually question meant for and what is the expectation and then after search for the best option out of given option. The time when you click the answer your mind and heart should be one and should not have any sort of confusion, you should be very confident. And to attain that confidence one must solve at least 20 Different full 200 Qn. Mock tests from different vendors. The list for the various for free mock test providers is given below for your reference.

Jai

 Simply great !

Thaks for valuable information.

Can you tell us what size of questions are genrerally appearing in real exam ? Are they very big like Rita's questions ? Or they are small, like examcentral or "PMP Mock Lite C. Scordio ( Tests 1 to 18)" ?

Dear Bridge,

During my Actual test, about 60% questions were of two and half line, 20% questions were more than three lines and remining 20% questions were of single line.  The exam was hybrid (Mix of hard and tough), you can say it was a mix of RIta's Super PMP, Exam Central, Simpli learn, PM study and certificate champ.

During exam I didn't find single numericals on  FPIF calculation, NPV. There were simple numericals on EVM, EAD, SD, VR, NCC, OC and EMV.

Thanks again for your invaluable guidence.

Congratulations on your 5P success!

Please advise: In the "what should you do" questions  (the ones expecting long term solutions), are all the provided answer choices related to long term... even though only one of them will be correct?

Thanks.

Regards.

For every question you have to select the best one out of four given options. While answering the what should you do type questions, think for long term impact of your decision on project but at the same time keep PMIyeesm in mind and select best one out of given.

Congrats for the acheivement!

Can you tell from where did u take the 35 Hours training

Dear JAR,

I took my 35 Hr. PDU Certificate from Star PMO at Pune.

 Awesome

I am glad your hard work paid off :-)

Could you let me know how much time did you take to prepare for the exam in hours?

Dear Debashis,

I had started my serious preparation Sinece Dec.2012 to May 2013. Daily I used to study 2-3 hours and on saturday 3- 5 Hrs. And in last month of preparation I took lot of mock test, and on each test I did spent atleast 5 Hrs.

Don't appear for actula test in Hurry and don't fix any schedule target unrealisticaly, give yourself good time for preparation, develop confindance every day.
