We Both Passed...
Hey Guys/Gals,
My brother (Dark Knight) and i passed the exam yesterday. We didn't have the luxury of months of preparation, as other commitments had to be dealt with. Our preparation time was approximately six weeks hardcore studying. We read the PMBOK, RITA and a bit of Head First. I was burnt out, as i just finsihed my MEng, soon after did CCDA and then jumped straight into PMP!
Regarding mock exams, we did: Oliver Lehmann's 175 + 75, Pmzilla's 200 Tough Questions (paid) and Simplilearn. We also used PMFastTrack (paid) , which had good questions and allowed us to practice by process groups as well as knowledge areas. Also did PMStudy, however these questions are more of an objective type and not an accurate representation of what the exam situational questions are like.
With respect to the exam experience, it can definitely be a nerve-wracking one. Four hours flies faster than you can imagine. The time pressure can make you forget simple things you were practicing for weeks. Didn't really do a brain dump, all 42 processes were basically easy to remember, as well as the formulas. After 5 minutes i just started the exam. Started with some easy questions and they gradually got tougher. Lots of cost calculation questions, risk situations, procurement, few network diagram scenarios (not as easy as just calculating CP). No professional and social responsibility questions.
Lessons Learnt:
- Their is NO EASY WAY OUT to pass this exam. As the late Benjamin Franklin rightly said, "By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail".
- Practice all the DIFFICULT questions you can find.
- TIME MANAGEMENT is critical. Whatever practice exams you do, time yourself for 3:45 mins vs. 4hrs.
- LIMIT "Mark for Review" questions to approximately 20, as you can easily lose track of how many u checked for review, only to realize you can have lots of review questions to complete with very limited time. Also, don't mark for review without selecting an answer. In the event time runs out, atleast they will be marked, giving u a chance to get it corret vs. not selecting an answer and not getting it correct.
- Reading one line questions two and three times is not advised. Keep that extra reading for the difficult questions.
- Say your prayers, and let the man above guide you to the finsih line.
Special thanks to PMZilla, great forum.
I believe everyone who has put the in the hours to prepare will prevail at the end. Don't give up, you can do it!
All the best to my peers,
ManOfSteel.

Copngratulations to both of you! Well done!
"No professional and social responsibility questions."
I was surpised to experience that as well. The study materials I used said to expect up to 9 questions about this subject area and I didn't have any.
You give great advise as well. Congrats again.
