Took the PMP exam today and failed (10/10/2010)

Today I sit for the exam after 5 months of preparation. I'm very sad to say that I failed. I scored below proficient in both Planning & Monitoring and Control, and moderately proficient on the rest. I can't feel any worse since this is the first time i could not pass an exam.

Please concentrate on Tools and techniques, different types of diagrams and charts. Again do not go for the exam if you don't know these inside out!

I have no idea what to do next. I want to pass this exam so badly before end of the year. Please give me suggestions.

Best regards,

 Don't feel bad about it.

1)Just read read PMBOK. Try to have good understanding of ITO

2) Dont miss to read glossary and pm ethics

3) Try all the paid exams of pmstudy and make sure that you score around 85% before you take another attempt.

 Hi,

I am very sorry to hear this. I think that an intense study of three months or more as you have mentioned should have been sufficient to pass the exam. I won’t recommend you to take a similar exam preparation approach this time due to two reasons:

Firstly you already have read a lot and I don’t see any reason for you to read any more books or repeat the already read books again. Apart from re-reading the PMBOK guide, re-reading an already studied book is usually not fruitful.

Secondly, as I said, a three month or more of an intense study of the subject is usually sufficient to pass the exam, but since you haven’t, repeating the same process is less likely to produce better results. So I suggest you take a different approach and hit the subject from a different angle this time. Consider attending classes, discussions, forums participation and PM podcasts.

I also can’t help myself ask you to consider using one of our own products, i.e. Prepcast. Prepcast prepares the students for the PMP exam through both video and audio lectures by our highly experienced and qualified trainer Mr. Cornelius Fichtner, PMP. Reading books and other reference materials is an information-pull strategy, that didn’t work for you. Try Prepcast, this works on an information-push strategy.

In the end, I would also recommend that please solve at least 1000 PMP practice questions. This will narrow the gap between your understanding of the subject and the actual exam, as well as this will highlight your strengths and weaknesses.

Oh I forgot to give you the URL to Prepcast! Please try checking it out by clicking the URL in my signature.

I have the pm prepcast videos and although they are great. I still did not pass. I guess that I may need to go for a prep course. Wish me luck for the next time (Dec 2010)

1. Try all four PMStudy exams from www.pmstudy.com and score 80 or above in all 4 of them.

2. See if you can get hold of kim heldman book. This book helped me a lot with concepts

3. Do at least 4000 mock questions and at the end try getting a score between 80-90%

4. Be confident as it's not your fault if you failed the exam, it is not one of those conventional exams where you have 1 right or wrong answer,

5. Use brain friendly guide (o'Reilly) for solving numerical questions. use a pencil when you read this book and finish all the exercises.

Best of luck...!

thank you very much for your comments,,,,
