I just calculated percentages, 90/10 yields the biggest benefit factor; this might help in case of choices 85/25 versus 80/25.

san in first response has explained it
vijayavadrevu,
san in first response has explained it,
I will just elaborate on san's point that , Yesthe pareto's rule says that 80% of problems/defects are caused by 20% causes. So What It says is, Just take a example of software testing , Testing team identifies 100 defects if you investigate those 100 defects GENERALLLY you will find that most of 100 defects are caused by very few HIGH impact causes. So if few fix those few HIGH impact causes it will resolve MAJORITY of defects. So Pareto rule just gave it thumbe rul 80% problems caused by 20% problems.
But don't you think it will be better that you fix 10% causes it takes care 90% problem, More BANG FOR YOUR BUCK/MONEY

It's about concept versus
It's about concept versus reality
Conceptually / theoritically the general rule is 80/20, 80% of the problems occur from 20 % of the cause.
The question asked is about MOST effective , so it would be easy to analyze and fix the issues with 10% cause against 20% cause, it's more broaded area comparatively.
Hope some one should have better explanation
