I have been a silent lurker for some months now but with the grace of GOD I was able to clear the exam on my first attempt on April 8, 2013.

Lessons Learned: I would have definitely taken the test sooner than I had. I studied for approximately 4-5 months (which was too long) but I felt much more comoftable after the long duration.

I think reading the RITA material is an adequate approach her questions and the the various angles she provides made her book (7th edition) and PMP FASTRAK top notch.

I didn't read the PMBOK too heavy but I made sure I was aware of the terms and the 42 processes provided.

I also made sure I was well versed in KEY CONCEPTS: Network Diagram, procurment types, EVM etc

The exam is challenging but its very doable. The answers are practical and can be solved in the amount of time provided (was a bit pressured at the end because it took me almost the full 4 hours). So manage yout time.
