Fast Track your schedule

You are required to "fast-track" your project schedule. THerefore you should be prepare to:
a) Eliminate some items of scope, with approporate stakeholder approval
b) Increase resources if they become over-allocated
c) Communicate a time extentsion
d) Shorten the duration fo critical path activities
Source of question: Ferndale's pmp
Given answer is b. I understan first part "increase resource" but don't understand second part "if they become over-allocated"
Won't "d" be possible answer?

Fast Track your schedule
This is my understanding...
Over allocated basically means they are being over utilised...
As for D, since the activities are already on critical path i dont think its possible to shorten it anymore...

I agree with
I agree with jeevan,
Over-allocation - means -- resources are over loaded.
D - shorten the duration.- has no meaning (it is just translation/ or definition of Fast tracking in other words)

So we increase resource only
So we increase resource only if resources are over loaded!

For simplicity, consider 2
For simplicity, consider 2 activities on the critical parth
Activity A of 4 days followed by Activity B of 5 days. Activity B has a FS dependency on Activity A.
Two possible scenarios for resorce allocation are:
1. Suppose Activity A uses Resource R1 and activity B uses Resource R2. If we fast track, i.e. overlap Activity B with A, since resources are different, their would be no resource overloading as the two resources would be working on their own activities.
2. Suppose both activities A and B were planned to use the same resource R1 and it was fine as they were initally identified to be sequential. Now in an attempt to fast track, if we want to overlap activity B with activity A and try to use resource R1 for activity B, Resource R1 will become overloaded as it is already working on activity A. So additional resource will be required to avoid overloading.

Thank you Daljiit,Well
Thank you Daljiit,
Well understood now, scenario 2 is what happens in choice b.
Often I find choices given are not clear to me.

You want to Fast track (or
You want to Fast track (or compress project schedule for activities on the CP – fsat tracking); so, u would not be prepared (separately) to “shorten” the duration of the activities on the CP.
This seems more like an understanding of a twisted grammer
