Customer verses Sponsorer verses Owner
Submitted by joyceclark on Sun, 04/07/2013 - 07:10
Can someone please tell me the difference between Customer, Sponsorer, Owner and stakholder. I know this must seem basic, but sometimes I am not for sure who does what. Especially between customer and sponsorer.
Thanks,
joyce

Hi, Sponsor or Project
Hi,
Sponsor or Project champion is the person, who drives the project in terms of the initial funding. What I belive is he is the person who will cross link the OBS and WBS through Control accounts/Work orders/Cost center. I belive this person will also perform the Incentive margin calculations also if the project is done for an external customer. Normally you wont get the funds from the customer from begining. Each org will internal allocate funds for projects based on company goals and mission.
Owner: if you are asking wh own the project, it is the sponsor. because sponsor can start and terminate the project :)
The Sponsor may also interface with internal or external clients until through the negotiation phase and project chartering. Then PM takes the operational control of project to reach the objectives identifed. Client means the end customer, who requires the final deliverable, nothing else.
others can correct me If wrong..

Sponsor also responsible for
Sponsor also responsible for project funding, he also resolves conflicts if not resolved by PM. He is who provides high level requirements, project objectives, high level risks & milestones which are part of Project Charter, responsible for assigning the PM, approves the project charter. Also finally he is also responsible acceptance of deliverables for internal projects..
