Passed PMP - First Attempt - today 04/04/13 - 3P and 2MP

Finally a long journey finally over. I feel relieved. It took me 9 months of study to clear the PMP. Here are some tit bits can help others

Duration of study

Approx 9 months

Daily study

Dont feel overwhelmed with months, actually I could mostly study 1-2 h/each day for study and not more than not even in the weekend. Other than last 10 days I studied almost 8-10h every day.

Books referred -

Rita Mulcahy  x 1 time

PMBOK x 5 times (Last time more of glancing rather than studying)

Study Notes that I prepared at the month of October - It took almost 20+ put it them together. I extensively used Rita and combined with Rajesh Nair notes. I refer PMBOK also. This is almost came around 180 pages. I studied this almost 20 times.

Exam

Due to time constraint I have I took only 1 full 4 hours test from PM Fasttrack and scored 72%

I took 1 hours test. I completed most of Christopher Scorodo. I have scored from 65% - 80%.

I also took tried 100 question from PMStudy and scored 63%.

I could not take a full test so sometime this does not reflect the score correctly. I felt dishearten that my score did not increase much.

What help most

After taking 1st Chris test, I realized that I did not quite study PMBOK. So finally I studied it multiple times to close all the gaps and understand the gaps. I started loving PMBOK. I know many people complain it is dry but I found it interesting, In exam this has helped me a lot. I feel question structures are somewhat aligned to PMBOK.

Study notes - Hats Off Rajesh Nair - helped me tremendously along with Rita's explanation

For last 1 month, every day I visited PMZilla forum religiously and read endless LL. Believe me guys that help me. 1st question in exam I did not understand, I read it for 5 mins and then I remembered somebody mentioned in LL in the forum they could not answer 1st 20 questions and after game starts after that. So that one tips help me a lot. Again in LL someone told me take 2 breaks and plan it. I took 1st break at 60 questions and 2nd after completion of 200 questions and I have marked many question for review so after break I came back looked only into marked question. I think if you have a doubt please answer and mark the question for review. When you review the mark question and if you are certain with the answer then remove the mark and finish all the pass. I did that almost 4 times in last one hour. Some questions I think around 5-10 I was never sure and kept them as-is. I never had the nerve to end the exam so I let it run out of time. Then a blank screen - I dont know how long it was but it felt a never ending. I was checking network cord , whether it is connected. Then comes the survey. That is so wrongly timed. I gave the answer as quickly as possible and then comes "congratulation"...wheh..

Congratulations on getting PMP certified.

Hi,

Congratuations on passing the PMP exam! I too had the 3 Ps and 2 MPs. Reading PMBOK over and over again for 4 times really worked wonders for me. In addition to that I had also taken PMstudy's classroom training with its online complementary course and mock tests and also took PMzilla tests. It really helped me a lot as well.
