Passed PMP Today-First Attempt

Hi All,

I passed PMP exam today on my first attempt.

I did not follow any specific startegy/plan  to share here.I just read PMBOK and Rita, tried PMstudy mock tests and used to bug people here whenever I had any questions.:).

So real exam was like most of the questions were really confusing and very few question were straight forward/easy.I got many numericals from Cost and N/W diagram and that saved me I think. So its not worth doing lot of mock tests without having proper and deep understanding in all the knowledge area and process groups. You may not belive but when I reached 10th question,I realized I was marking all the questions till 10 for  review :) .Then I stopped that pattern and went on attending each questions and marked really hard questions for review. So the exam covered SPI,CPI,SV,CV,TCPI,VAC,N/W doagram(float etc),Critical path, lot of scope ,Risk ,Qualiy related scenario questions.

I did not do any brain dump for the exam from  PMBOK -pg 43 or formulae.Skipped tutorial and started the exam.

My entire exam preparation was for 4 months but I actually studied in last 2 months.

Thank you all  and All the very best.

Congratulations on your success!!

Can you please tell:

- How long did you take to answer all 200 questions? How much spare time left?

- For network diagram questions, do you actually see the diagram on-screen OR do you get tables/data from which you can draw your own n/w diagram?

Thanks!

Hey,

I noticed you need some information on the PMP exam.  Here is my opinion

- I finished the 200 questions on the exam in little over 2.5 hours.  I then spent 30 minutes in reviewing the questions I earlier marked for review.  I was able to hit the submmit button in little over 3 hours.   My advice here, once you have completed all questions, checked and completed questions which you marked  "for review", and just had a general revision of the other questions, do not spend time in rechecking your answers.  I know the thought seems tempting, but believe me, more often than not it will put you in doubt and you risk changing your answer.

- Most of the network diagram questions on the exam are not tough at all.  You may need to dra w network diagrams for a few questions however those are straightforward.

My advice for the exam, its the situational questions that you need to watch out for.  I have heard about this, and it happened with me as well, one word disguised somewhere in the question can change the meaning of the  sentence and hence the answer.

Hi pmpnewster.

Thank you.

I finished in around 3.5 hrs but then there were lot marked  for review.

So regarding N/W diagram its mixed, some are already  drawn and some are with tables with required details to draw the N/W.

Thanks both of you - SunitaPMP and rattanw - for your responses!

Regards.
