Quality Management - Control Chart problem

I would like to know when the control chart will be used? In Quality Planning or quailty control or both?? I am confused....
In PMBOK, control chart is the tool in quality planning and quality control.
In Rita, control chart is the tool in quality planning.
But in my class, the totur said it only occurs in quality control.

In Plan Quality, the control limits and other criteria (if any) of control chart are decided and set up.
In Perform Quality Control, control chart will be used to assess or evaluate the project results. It will be used here to check if the results are within the acceptable limits.
