Passed PMP - 1st Try
Howdy Folks -
I used this forum when studying for the test, so I figured I would add to it after I passed (3 P's, 2 MP's)
I used Andy's book to get my CAPM certification a few years ago, so I went with Andy's book for the PMP. I read all of the chapters, then skimmed the PMBOK guide after each one. This took about 3 weeks to complete balancing work. During the last week, I watched all of the videos on the Insite PMP course (free week trial w/Andy's book). This took a good 10 or 11 hours (I burned up my weekend doing so) - but it helped reitrate all of the material.
*Tips*
- Know the terms in the PMBOK glossary
- Headfirst's pdf of the Critical Path & Forward/Backward path was the best explanation (you can google it)
- PMStudy's questions were harder than the actual exam
- Know your contract types
- Know all EVM calcs
- Oliver Lehman's PM exam sample questions were pretty close to the level of difficulty on the test - I recommend doing both the .pdf and the online test of his. If you can score above a 70 on both you should be in a pretty good spot to take the test
- The questions in Andy'sbook were good, but no nearly as difficult as the test.
- You will be faced with a lot of situational questions, but you usually can eliminate 1 or 2 answers from start
The exam took me about 2 1/2 hours or so to complete.
Good luck everyone!!!
