PMP Certified - lesson learnt

Hey guys,

Just want to share that I have cleared my PMP exam with proficiency in 4 process groups and moderately proficiency in execution. I have been following this forum since some days so wanted to share my lesson learnt as well:

Books: I started with Andy and then moved to Rita. I read Pmbok 3 times. This overall activity took me like 3 months.

Mock Tests: Took these mock tests

Tip – Please be prepared to face lots of question on quality and risk. There will be like 20 questions based on cost where you will need to calculate (better use paper-pencil for calculations instead of the inbuilt software calculator). About 4-5 questions were on network diagrams. Majority of the questions are situational and you will find 2 choices confusing always for majority of the questions. Please do not hurry for the exam and read Pmbok couple of times. Take 1-2 breaks for 2-3 minutes just to relax and refresh.

All the best!

 Congrats Ritesh !!

Can you tell me in which order we should try mock test you mentioned?

In term of difficulty and similarty,Is  Pmpforsure and PMStudy  close to real PMP?

Thanks

Thanks everyone and Admin.

I did not follow any order to be honest, but I would advice try the tough Mock tests like Oliver, Brainbook and Pmpforsure first so that you find more gaps.

No mock exam is close to the PMP exam. The PMP exam questions, language and the quality are very superior than any mock tests. Pmpforsure is tougher than PMStudy, as per my experience. The questions of Pmpforsure are mainly from Pmbok i.e. they copy 1-2 lines from Pmbok and add some situation to it, that’s what I felt for majority of their questions. It’s good if you want to revise Pmbok. PMStudy is very good too, they have mix type questions and the pattern is similar to PMP exam.

In fact, just try 2-3 providers as majority of the questions will be similar everywhere. Let me know if you have further questions.

Hi Ritesh,

Congratulations...thats incredible.........would you be able to tell me how did you prepare...exactly like first you read all the books then gave exams or together ......also did you do definitions and ittos or everything together..was there a definite way to prepare?

Thankyou,

Utpala

As you see from my original post, I started with Andy and then moved to Rita. I concentrated on the chapter end questions on these with explanations. I then moved and read Pmbok once. This activity took me like 2 months since I am a working person. One thing I did was made hand made notes while I read books, and believe me this helped me too much for quick revision. Although I am in IT field, still I used pen and paper to write down important points.

The last month was most important where I took all the mentioned tests. During this time I mainly read Pmbok and I am sure I covered Pmbok 2 times again, by hook and crook.

One thing I would definitely recommend, please make self made notes as this add’s lots of value add. Pmpforsure also gives 45 pages quick recap of Pmbok, that’s also good if you would like to get daily recap of important points. However, self made notes will add more value adds than anything else.

IITO is very important, I believe the more you practice mock tests and read Pmbok you will grasp IITO. Make sure you have time to read mock test explanations given by them. You don’t need to learn IITO, just practice and practice will get you what you need.

Don’t worry much, relax, PMP is not that difficult exam. Right planning and right path is key to success.

Hi Ritesh,

Thankyou so much for your kind reply. I have been getting 65% in Oliver Lehmann and Pm study tests......do you think I should wait for exam and what extra preparation should I do?

Is it okay if I email you my questions?

Thankyou very much

Not sure if you have 2-3 weeks time, if you have, read Pmbok once and take 2-3 mock tests. There are lots of free one available to try, see my post. Anything like 70% will give higher confidence and you are just lacking by 5%.

I do not see any issue if you send me email for queries. I would suggest, post questions here as other people will also see PMP queries that being answered. If you still like to email me, feel free to do that at "r i t e s h . m o d i @ a o l . c o m" (without spaces).

Thanks & Regards,
