Have a look at 10 confusing Questions
Submitted by Reeta on Sun, 02/24/2013 - 03:55
Pls have a look at the following questions, I found it difficult to answer the questions,
1.A project manager likes to involve his team on all of the decision making processes. Whenever there are issues which require an urgent decision, he calls the team to work out a solution together. This approach of project manager is? Correct, because it helps to get team buy- in and as well as their commitment to the change
Correct, as brainstorming technique helps to bring out creative ideas to solve the problem
Incorrect, a lot of time and effort will be expended by the project team on decisions which
could be singularly made by the project manager
Incorrect , as not all the solutions coming of brainstorming session cannot be
implemented resulting in disappointment in the team
2. A senior stakeholder approaches the project manager to slightly modify the project
scope to include an additional feature required by him. The project is already in the
execution stage. What should be the response of the project manager?
It is difficult to incorporate this feature as the project is already moved out of planning
stage Analyze the impact of the request on the other factors of triple constraints namely cost
and schedule
Bring the change request to Change Control Board to decide on its fate
Document the change request as per the project scope management plan
3. You are managing an accounting project when a new CFO is hired at your company.
He’ll be affected by all of the accounting projects in your company. What’s the BEST thing
for you to do?
Show him the Project Charter so that he knows that you are in charge of the project
Work with him to understand the current requirements and determine if he has new ones
to add to the project
Keep working on the project and get his feedback when he can review the finished
product
Add him to the communications plan
4. Recently, your organization has received resumes for the idle post of Technical Lead.
The HR department has shortlisted certain resumes and handed them to you to interview.
While reviewing the resume of one candidate, you see a discrepancy in the number of
years she attended college. You should? Report this discrepancy to Human Resources
Refuse to consider her for this project
Ask her to clarify the information
Let it remain as it is after all she has already been working for long time, so it doesn't
matter now
5.A customer in the later part of project execution wants to add scope to the project .
The project manager discusses this change with the customer and raises a written
change request. He then evaluates if this change can be addressed through project
reserves and explores alternatives. The project manager finds that this addition would
result in missing the next milestone delivery. What should the project manager do NEXT?
Evaluate the impact of the change on other factors of triple constraint - cost and time
Perform Integrated Change Control
Get an approval from the Change Control Board
Update the project baseline and inform the customer
6.What form of organization is used in large, modern corporations?
Matrix
Composite
Functional
Projectized
7.You are managing a project with a one year duration. During the middle of the
project, it is found that the quality of the project is not as planned or expected. Who is
responsible for this situation?
Project champion
Project team
Stakeholders
Customers
8.During procurement closure, a procurement audit includes all of the following
EXCEPT:
Reviewing the contract terms to ensure that they have all been met
Identifying successes and failures that should be recognized
Documenting lessons learned
Using the payment system to process consideration as per the terms of the contract
9.During an emergency project review meeting, the project manager learns about the
current funding problems from the sponsor of the project. Which of the following would be
the best recourse for the project manager under these circumstances?
Inform the senior management of the impending risks
Submit a change request to reduce the scope of work and initiate closure
Submit change request to extend the schedule and to allow for improvement in funds'
situation of the sponsor
Continue with work, as planned
10.As a project manager for the FLR project, recently you added a new member to your
project team. This new team member was hired from a competitor and he has offered to
share confidential information about projects from his previous company. This information
will obviously be of great importance to you and for your organization's future business.
You should: Accept the information and agree to keep it confidential between you and the new hire
Review the condition of employment with the new hire and advise her to reconsider her
offer of sharing information
Review the information and only accept the information that may have a direct impact on
the project's financial status
Ignore the offer to share and move forward with the project
Pls explain with answers

Answers..
1-C - A PM should not involve team for ALL of the decision making process.
2-B I'll stick to Analyse the impact first then document. No 100% sure though!
3-C I would first work work with him to identify his needs as he's a new stakeholder then add him to communication plan.
4-C Before taking any hard step, i would lik eto clarify first.
5-B Since impact analysis is already done per question, i will perform integrated change control
6-A (Not too sure on this one!)
7-B (Project team makes sense)
8-D (Payment system is odd man out here, not a part of closing)
9-A (Informing abouts the risks seems reasonable as a first choice followed by others)
10-B (Other 3 are violation of pmi's ethics)
I am not a PMP yet, so my answers/justifications may not be all correct. Would appreciate knowing correct answers.
Thanks!
