I owe a lot to this forum and thought i should also contribute whatever lessons that i learned during this 5-6 months span of PMP preparation.

Background:

I am software engg. with 6.5 years of experience.Started thinking of PMP certification somewhere in June 2012 though i was not sure that i will attempt it for sure.

How it started:

Borrowed Head first PMP book from one of my friend in June 2012 and started reading at nights after work for 1/1.5 hour daily.Really liked the simple wordings which made me feel comfortable understanding the PM concepts.Completed reading it within1.5 months. Came to know about PMZILLA forum from somewhere during the same time and immediately joined it.

This was the turning point in my preparations where i met KK aka krantikumar (He played an instrumental role in my PMP preparations, helped me,motivated me throughout till exam day.Can not forget his contribution in my success),RPS aka sspawar and SK aka sendilkumar. This is the point where i became seriuos with the studies. started reading Rita mulcahy's book, after completion of it started with PMBOK. then again Rita and PMBOK in parallel(one chapter from each) during which i attempted the chapter end exams of Rita and used to score around 65-75%.

Then in the month of Nov.2012 took the PMI membership, filled the application which i then submitted to PMI in the same month which got thorugh without any audit and paid the exam fees right away on 15 Dec for appearing the exam on 15th Feb 2013.

In the month of January , i started taking mock exams. Following are my scores.

2 weeks prior to exam,i took an off from work. and dedicated around 8-10  hours daily for the preparations. stopped taking mock tests on 10th Feb.then concentrated on reading PMBOK again start to end. finally on the exam day, reviewed PMBOK glossary

so in short
PMBOK(4-5 reads)
Rita(3-4 reads)

How was the exam?

Some questions were directly from PMBOK(Reading glossary will help you answer them)
Lots and Lots of maths questions EV,SPI,CPI,SV,PV,EMV but no PTA
Lots of situational questions

From what i experienced, i totally agree with what many of the successful PMP's say that actual exam doesnt resembel with any of the mock tests but yes,
mock exams make you ready for the final exam.So if you have prepared hard ,your concepts are strong then no one can stop you from passing.

Finally ,I must say this success was not possible without KK,RPS,SK and admin(pmzilla).

Thank you so much for it.

Thanks Prashant for detailed LL and Congratulations

Can you please post your view on the which mock tests you found useful and which ones can be avoided.

 Thank you very much admin.

Regarding mock tests. i think the ones which i menstioned are useful. thoughi didnt get a chance to practice Rita fast track tests which many of successful PMP's suggest.

I never tried free ones. but yes some of them are useful and some of them don't. Again i didnt tried them so can't really say about them.

I would suggest going by paid ones.

Congrats and many thanks for sharing your LL.

Yes it was indeed a stressful journey towards PMP where lots of efforts have been put especially in last 15 days where i was just able to sleep properly in the nights. but in the end it just paid off:-)

Dear Prashant aka PL:-

Thanks for the encouraging and beautiful hossanas. I believe, however, nobody is reposnsible for anyone's success on this difficult examination. It can be achieved by dint of hard labour and conviction. You are a perfect epitome of this. Your dedication toward PMP was very honest with a blend of undaunted and unrestricted conviction. The day of your exam I called you just to tell you DO NOT be nervous at all and much to my surprise and happiness you were 'NOT', and this is the time I knew its just a matter of a meagre 4 hours and you are coming out trumps and that's what happened.

Good job PL. As I said before, you getting the accreditation is like me getting it again in a span of a week. am very vry happy for you. You have proved everyone what hrd lbour with  blend of conviction can do. Great job. You are bound to do very very well in life professionally. Now, hope the third muskeeter aka SK also passes the muster.

God and our efforts are indeed Great!

Be blessed and enjoy :)

Yours, KK :)

Thank you very much kk for your kind words. but without the kind of support that i got from you,it was never possible for me to pass the exam. you were like a tonic/energy booster for me which made sure that the i have all the required level of energy or power to prepare for this level of exam.

Even if you deny, i can't forget your contribution towards my PMP success.
