Operation PMP - Success - 2 P & 3 MP - Lessons Learned

Atlast its my turn to post my LL to all PMP aspirants....

First of all thanks to the Almighty,my family and Pmzilla. This community is really awesome for providing such a wonderful forum for learning.I've been a silent viewer of this forum and used all the different materials provided.Without pmzilla's materials, it would have been really a tough journey for me.

Attended the training organized by Vinsys in my organization last year March'12.Started my preparations from September 11(9/11) - none can forget the date!!Booked my exam for Jan16th but unfortunately cancelled due to Prometric's issue(6 centers in india were not allowed to write exams due to some administrative review)Really frustrated and was waiting for the D-Day.Finally the website showed chennai location on 12th of this month.Booked for Friday(Feb 15th).

My preparation is as follows - Started with Headfirst, then PMBOK, then finally Rita.

  • Head first - 2 times
  • PMBOK - 2 times
  • Rita - 2 times
  • Rajesh Nair notes - 3 times(once the day before exam)
  • Raga's 355 points - 3 times(once the day before exam)
  • My own hand written notes - 2 times(once the day before exam)
  • Wrote the formula sheet as depicted by Anil Tanguturi - 2 times ( was able to complete writing them in a piece of paper in around 10 mins).
  • Went through all the wrong questions and noted the correct answers the day before exam

Wrote many Mock tests and the results were as follows

My experience on the overall exam - it was neither easy not tough - more vague.
Nearly 20 problems - Cost problems(10) - Schedule problems(5) - Communication problems(2) - EMV(1)
Straight forward questions around 40
rest are kind of vague.

1st hour - i was able to complete around 65 q, then paced up and was able to complete the first pass of 200 q in 2 1/2 hrs. Marked Nearly 50 Q..Got the feeling that i would not clear..Then sighed a great breath and started answering the incomplete questions first, then the reviewed ones - probably changed the answers for nearly 5 from original what i chose. The last 30 minutes did a complete review from 1st question to the last skipping the problems - changed answers for some 5...last 7 seconds left - had no other go - hence clicked the "End" button  - the survey screen came up, immediately clicked "exit" button, then the blank screen came up.As everyone mentioned that the BP increases, i too felt the same..Palpitation,sweating  and finally came the success story - "Congrats you have passed the PMP examination"...Wow..what a moment!!!

  • Executing - P
  • Monitoring and Controlling - P
  • Closing - MP

My advice to the candidates - Don't lengthen your preparation as i did..Let your preparation between 6 to 8 weeks after your training(Every individual can decide how you can achieve this -you've to balance your Professional/Personal life:)), Write the mock tests

Note:PMBOK 5th edition is released and exams scheduled from July 2013 are most likely expected to be with version 5..so plan your exams accordingly.

Pls email to dmahesh.007@gmail.com for my notes and errors which i have made in tests which will be useful for you

Thanks and good luck for all the aspirants...
