Progress Reporting

Kindly clarify from Rita's Book 6th Ed.

Progress Reporting:

20/80 rule: An activity is considered 20 percent complete when it begins and gets credit for the last 80 percent ONLY when it is completed.

If an activity has begun and "gets  credit for the last 80%," how then can we say it is just 20% complete?

I am really not sure what you are asking. But the 20/80 reporting rule/technique is (somewhat) explained below.

You don't monitor the actual progress the pjt has made.

Once the project is started, you report that 20% of the project is complete (irrespective of the actual completion status).

No other progress is reported until the project is finally complete. Then it is reported as 100% complete.

So, 20% 'completion credit' is given to starting, and 80% is given to final completion.

when n activity starts or begins - its progress will be recorded as 20% before it gets completion and when it gets completion(100%), its progress will recorded as 20% +80% =100%.

20% credit is given from start, then nothing else until project completion.

Thereafter, the project is certfied with the balance of 80% (total =100% complete.)

Got it...Thanks.
