Cleared PMP exam on my first attempt - 19 Dec 12

All,

I am very excited to share with you my success story. One of the reasons for my success is the blogs, posts, tips, and answers provided in this forum. Thank you PMzilla members!

My Exam preparation: (Two months)

1. Read Rita Mulcahy's PMP exam prep material

  • Read this material thoroughly three times.
  • Reading this book was like going through an interesting novel. Awesome experience.

2. BMBOK_Guide-Fourth_Ed

  • Read this material twice.
  • Understood the definitions of Project Management process group, processess and knowledge areas

3. Executed many mock up tests (very critical)

  • Helped me in knowing the exam pattern
  • Helped me in realizing the answer pattern. Be careful to cross check the answers when you are in doubt, by posting your query in PMzilla.

My tips for exam preparation:

  1. Just read two books - Rita and PMBOK4
  2. Understand the flow/interactions between all the processess
  3. Know the inputs and outputs of all processess and which Process group or knowledge area they fall into
  4. Memorize formulae (time and cost management) and practice the related questions extensively
  5. Read the PMI'sm tips provided in various web sites
  6. Read PMP related tips and blogs

Congratulations Pradeep,

 Congrats

Was wondering if you could give the break down of the exam questions.

Some of the questions you found difficult to answer?

Where i.e. which subject did ure exam seem to concentrate on.

Thanks

Thank you...

1. I am quite not sure about the % of questions asked for each knowledge area or process groups. However, I got to see many questions, about 20+ on time management (scheduling). These formulae driven answers took long time for me to answer but I did answer all of them correctly.

2. While studying, I focused more on formulae related questions and practiced them a lot, as you can be sure of the answers unlike the ones to situational questions.

3. The exam questions were relatively easy compared to the mock up exam or questions. But they were lengthy. One mistake I did in the exam was paying too much attention to read each question. This took long time and I hardly got time to review the answers. When I completed the all questions, had only 5 sec left :(

4. I got 'P's in "Executing" and "Monitoring and Controlling" process groups. Overall – 2P+3MP.

 Thanks, Pradeep
