Need Clarifications/Suggestions from PMPs
Hi Friends,
I am new to this forum and I’m not PMP, but an aspirant to become PMP. I need suggestions and encouragement from this forum. I came to knew about PMP from one of my friends and suggested me to become PMP. I’m not having experience as a Project Manager. Might be there are lot of people who having many doubts in their minds regarding PMP same like me who is not having experience as a Project Manager or related management designations. I would like to request to all PMPs to have a look over my doubts and give valuable suggestions.
Clarifications need to the following to appear for PMP Exam.:
(1) Is it necessary to have experience as a Project Manager?
(2) If any engineering graduate who has been working as a field engineer or design engineer (mostly working at office in designing work) having experience for many years (more than 4500 hours of PMI requirement) can eligible to appear for PMP exam.??
(3) Is it necessary to have experience in all 5 groups and 42 processes and in all 9 knowledge areas?? Some may have more than 4500 hours of project experience but not in all processes, some may have experience either only in planning or executing or in 2 groups or 3 or 4 or in only one group of processes or mixer of different processes in all 5 groups.
(4) Some one have experience of same work for many years for example in government office, a Section Manager or Engineer working on maintenance of projects or jobs which last for only few days or months, how can he club or show his experience among all processes. Another example is an Architect or Planner who is working on different projects or jobs as a consultant for government organisation, whose job is only checking and verifying of the contractor’s job whether the project is going on according to the specifications given. These persons are working on projects not as Managers but different positions with different experience and aspiring to become PMP. How can they are eligible and get through the PMP Exam.??
(5) I heard a house wife can also become PMP, is it right? If so how can she show the experience of all 42 processes to PMI?

1) Yes. 4500 hrs as
1) Yes. 4500 hrs as recommended by PMI. Without practical exp. it will be difficult, you will have to put in more horus
2) Yes. Be prepared to get the letter from your company to verify your exp. if audited by PMI
3) No. Not in all process groups. In any group 4500 hrs is enough
4) & 5)... If you meet the PMI eligibility criteria of education and number of hours of exp. you should be able to give PMP certification. Housewife can do PMP if she has 4500 hrs exp in last 6 years.
