Passed PMP--> Lessons learned

Hi

Thanks to PMZilla forum as I regularly visited to see what all are saying about experience

I was having 2 sleepless nights.. so my main worry was if i was able to concentrate for 4 hrs or not.
Well sleepless night not all due to exam as I was doing trading and I close my trades last night so I can relax as  Ben bernake was speaking FOMC so I would like to close :) positions

I haven't slept much just close eyes for 3-4 hr night, wake up at 6:15 am, took bath, eaten 2 parthas and then went to Dunkin to pick a strong coffee so I can sit awake.

Exam center was strict they ask me take my pockets out each time, checked with sensor, every time you go out same thing + check in and out time.

Last year, I took knowledgewood training , it was kind of OK.. But I delayed 1 year for exam so self study only helped. I read last month PMBOK only, practice EMV question on the internet (not many as I was confident I can crack this if I know terms), Rita 6th edition 2 times 3 months back, PMI free 18 test exams , its good and keep PMBOK knowledge tested.

PMPsureshot , knowledgewood test package 10 tests, done only 6--> 4 test score less than 62% and last test 72%

PMstudy test fail 64%.

I was somehow nervous earlier seeing results but confident I can crack as I read PMBOK very thorowly.

In exam:

15-20 EVM maths questions, critical path questions, lot of questions on Quality.

Rest are equally distributed.

Exam was lengthy, I am barely able to review 4-6 questions , I marked almost 40-50.
I also write 2-3 questions no on scratch which I shoudl review first as I left them deliberately maths questions and I am glad I got time to review atleast those.

ITTO's  I haven't memorize all But some technique of few of them I did and it helped to crack 3-4 questions but not much.

Brain dump: I have written page 43 include TT , math farmula.

If anyone starting and would like to know how to create page 43, I can send the doc.

please email me on coolkaps4u@yahoo.com

Thanks

Hi,

So, will you recommend knowledgewoods training or not?

Thanks

Hi Kapil.,

Congrats on your PMP. Even I have taken training from knowledgewoods in Pune and now preparing for my PMP this Jan.

I have taken pmstudy test after one round of study of PMBOK and got 64%.

How did u improve from there after scoring 64% on pmstudy and when did u take pmstudy exam.

 I found knowledgewood training OK.
It has given me a kickstart which was needed to get into this, if no training and learning by myself all concepts at one go is not easy from PMP prospective.
general project management I have done.

Well, I have given on 12th as my validity was expiring on 25th and fees would have been wasted so that was motivation to start again. I started and then left, happend couple of times so this time its one way only no option.

I read Rita 6th edition earlier when I started but second serious study I refered PMBOK and if you go through reading each line 4-5 times and understanding flow.

you will be through except EVM practice questions which you can check on various website even some good videos on youtube, Since my background is engineering and I love maths so I haven't practiced much and able to crack 90% of the math questions just on those farmuls. 1-2 questions were confusing so i don't know If i answered right or wrong

I never scored more than 62% on any mock except last one with 72% as those were demotivators for me so I filled the gap on the exams I have given by reading PMBOK and believe me , Nothing is outside it everything is there so read as much as you can and see if you can make your own question from any sentence?

All the best to guys and Thanks
