Monitor and Control Project

 Question No : 111

In the project execution phase, deliverables are produced. While monitoring and controlling project work, you track, review, and regulate the progress to meet the performance objectives. In this context, what is NOT performed in the Monitor and Control Project Work process?

Choice 1  Comparing expected project performance against the project plan

Choice 2  Monitoring implementation of approved changes as they occur

Choice 3  Providing information to support status reporting, progress measurement, and forecasting

Choice 4  Providing forecasts to update current cost and current schedule information

  Correct Choice : 1

 Justification :

The Monitor and Control Project Work process is concerned with comparing actual (not expected) performance against the project management plan.

My concern - how is option 4 different from option 1. #4 is providing forecasts which is same as "EXPECTED" for option 1

Hi,

Option 1 is correct answer.

In Option 1, it says "comparing expected performance..." , expected is nothing but planned.

While you forecast, you do not expect something to happen, you try to envisage what might happen based on the actual performance. Based on forecast you can take some Corrective or Preventive actions.

For example: Based on the current trend report if you see the productivity is going to decrease further, you will have to take some actions to bring it on track.

While Planning is done based on your project requirements, Forecasts are done based on actual performance. A "PLAN" is not a Forecast, and a "Forecast" is essentially a measurement and not a expectation.

Hope this helps,

Choice 4 Providing forecasts to update current cost and current schedule information

But we provide forecasts to indicate the cost trend and not to update CURRENT COST/schedule. Current cost would be actual costs so #4 also does not make sense.

Providing forecast to update current forecasted cost and schedule figures.

Forecast is the same as EXPECTED, but it will not be compared with planned.

Actual performance will be compared with timephased planned (baselines).
