PMstudy question about monitor status

In your project, you monitor the status of the project to update the project progress. which of the following techniques would you not use?

  Choice 1  Reserve analysis

  Choice 2  Variance analysis

  Choice 3  Resource leveling

  Choice 4  Performance reviews

  Correct Choice : 1

 Justification :

Control Schedule is the process to monitor the status of the project to update project progress and manage changes to the schedule baseline.

The tools and techniques used in Control Schedule process are performance reviews, variance analysis, project management software, resource leveling, what-if scenario analysis, adjusting leads and lags, schedule compression, and scheduling tool.

Reserve analysis is one of the techniques used in Estimate Activity Duration process and not in Control Schedule process.

What is causing confusion for me is

How is the assumption made that it is CONTROL SCHEDULE??

monitor the status of the project  could be any status COST, SCHEDULE, QUALITY, RISK

Reserve analysis, is prime requirement in case of status report /progress report , and it is a part of Monitor and Control process group in risk KA also.

Such question should be ignored but what the good part in that one is to be learned.

Hi,

The question is in-adequately sentenced.

Reserve analysis is one of the methods and I agree its used in other KA also. But matter of fact is, even if you have NOT used contingency reserve (means reserve remains same) there can still be some variances in your progress. In a million dollar project if there is CV of say -$500, you may not use Reserve, but still you will UPDATE the progress with this CV of -500$. Even if the variance is small, you have to update the progress (say, S-Curve) and its matter of ethical conduct also.

So just reserve analysis will not give you the PROGRESS UPDATE.
