Passed PMP on 20th - 3P 2MP
I was a regular visitor of this forum and I religiously read all the LL’s posted past 3 months. Sharing my experience as it might help others like me.
I have been thinking about PMP for few months and started my preparation somewhere around 20th July. I was looking for a 35 contact hour program and that’s when I stumbled to PMZilla forum, looking at suggestions I enrolled into Simplilearn 30 day program. I completed that by end of July. The videos they provided were ok but they gave me the necessary 35 PDU’s.
Next I moved on to Rita, read every chapter line by line; I mostly skipped the exercises she had within the chapter and went directly to answers but I attempted the chapter end tests, I think the average I got was around 75%. My opinion is that Rita is very wordy but it helped me understanding the concepts. I gave whole august to Rita as I was reading it in slow pace and completed it by August end. I never touched Rita after this.
Then I started on PMBOK again read it line by line and completed it in 15 days and finished it by Sep 15. PMBOK is very to the point and may feel boring to some people but it’s the bible and every line is a potential question, so my suggestion is read it very carefully and reread any chapter if needed.
Now it was the time for trying my hands on some tests these were the ones I attempted –
Exam Central 75%
PM Study Free 76%
Brainbok 50 Qs 68%
Simplilearn 71%
PMP for sure 66%
After every test I reviewed the wrong answers and noted down the topics where I had gaps and read them again from PMBOK. Also realized I was constantly getting low % in M&C and Closing so read those process groups again. I was disappointed with my score in PMP for sure so read full PMBOK again and this time completed it in 3 days. I had not taken any notes so far so took some notes this time for my last days. It was just 3 pages on the things I keep forgetting every time e.g. motivation theories, Delphi tech etc.
Scheduled my exam for Oct 20th just one week back and used that week to attempt these tests and review the gaps again –
Headfirst 80%
Oliver 75 66%
Oliver 175 74%
Pmzilla tough 30 67%
Appeared for the main exam and I passed with 3 P in Initiating, Planning and Executing and 2 MP in M&C and Closing. My take on exam is that it was easier than I expected, only a few questions were like very wordy and also the choices were less confusing, what I mean is for most questions I could easily point out the correct choice as other 3 were really out of context. There were quite a few numerical I guess around 15 or so. In short I think the exam was close to PMStudy it was definitely easier that PMP for sure.
It was along post but I didn’t want to leave anything. I would like to thank everyone in this forum for who helped me directly or indirectly; also to my wife for supporting me and keeping me motivated all the way, couldn’t have done without it.
Please let me know if any questions I will be happy to help.

I passed PMP first time - 22 Oct 2012
Responding to abhipmp PMP sharing, my effort for preparing the exam was similar.
I read PMBok Guide first, then Head First. I find Head First fun reading and easy to understand, thus helping me to remember the content. I also went through Rita book briefly, mainly to use the chapter questions.
Memorising the processes for all 9 knowledge areas is a must. I also made an effort to remember the ITTOs for each process.
Practised lots of questions:
-PMP Exam Prep: Questions, Answers, & Explanations, 2012 Edition (free access as a PMI member http://pmi.books24x7.com) - The Lite mock questions are mainly the scenarios questions, they are harder then the actual PMP.
-Head first 200 questions
-PM Study test 1 & 2 (the format is quite close to the actual PMP)
-Always refer to PMBok Guide when checking the answers
The actual PMP
-Calculator provided on computer
-Less than 10 questions I had come across from the simulation tests
-I finished all 200 questions in 3 hrs and 45 min. Didn't really have time to review all the marked questions.
-The EVM calculation questions are not straight forward like those in the simulation, and there are quite a few. You must understand all the EVM formalus in PMBok Guide well.
-The scenarios questions are not as hard as those in Lite Mock (PMP Exam Prep)
-I made some check points: complete 25 questions every 30 mins.
My Score:
Initiation: Moderate Proficient
Planning: Moderate Proficient
Execution: Moderate Proficient
Monitor and Control: Proficient
Close: Below Proficient
My verdict is: there is no braindump you can trust to pass the exam. Only hardwork can help you pass PMP!!

Congrats guys, well
Congrats guys, well done!
abhipmp - wanted to ask you this, how do you rate the exam central and headfirst mock tests? I have taken them both and scored 75% and 85% respectively. Thought I'll check my progress based on what you experienced since those scores are similar to what you got. I will take atleast 4 more mocks before the exam (which is on the 3rd).

Headfirst is too easy and the
Headfirst is too easy and the PMP is little tougher than exam central as well. Try PM Study thats kind of closest.
I think you are on right track give 3-4 mocks, review the gaps from PMBOK and read full PMBOK in the last 3-4 days. All the best.

Agree with your assessment of
Agree with your assessment of PMP Exam Prep on pmi.org. Those scenrio questions are killers, specially in the last 4-5 question sets. Good to know that they are harder than what you'll encounter in the test, though. :D

Congrats for your PMP!! that
Congrats for your PMP!! that reminds few things -
Throughout the mocks i tried to time myself to complete in 2.5 to 3 Hrs and that helped me in real exam where i completed in 3 Hrs and i had marked around 30 questions for review. Reviewed them in 30 mins changed 3 and completed the test in 3.5 hrs.
And yeah i didnt memorize the ITTOs its not worth it because none of the questions directly ask for ITTO. But if you understand the concepts you can answer a lot of questions correctly.

What %age of the questions do
What %age of the questions do you think were long, wordy situational type questions? Those are the questions which trouble me the most!

There were very few questions
There were very few questions very long story type like ones in Rita. But most of the questions were situational, and almost 3-6 lines long.
PMP definitely requires you to understand the concepts. One trick i found handy is that if you find it difficult selecting right choice in situational questions start striking out the wrong ones until you are left with one. That helped me in getting quite a few questions correct.
