Passed PMP Exam on Aug 21 - 1st attempt Exam Prep Advice
I passed the PMP exam on Aug 21 on my first attempt. If anyone is looking for advice, I'll share the following:
1. Read Andy Crowe first. His study guide was the simplest for me and a great starting point.
2. After finishing Andy’s book I recommend reading a chapter of Rita’s and the corresponding chapter in the PMBOK. I’ve heard so many people say the PMBOK is boring and not necessary but I disagree. I firmly believe the PMBOK is a must.
3. Take the chapter tests at the end of Rita’s chapters. Do all of Rita’s exercises. If you are unable to do one because you don’t know the info go back and read the chapter again and refer back to the PMBOK.
4. Reread Risk, Time, Quality and Procurement in all three books. (or any chapter that needs extra attention)
5. Take practice tests. Start out with quick, easy practice tests like Head First http://www.headfirstlabs.com/PMP/pmp_exam/v1/quiz.html. Move on to Exam Central http://www.examcentral.net/pmp/pmp-exam-questions. Don’t just spend time on the questions you miss but also review the questions you got right to make sure you know why you got it right.
6. Once you’re scoring in the 80’s on the above practice tests move on to more difficult sites like Oliver Lehmann http://www.oliverlehmann.com/pmp-self-test/75-free-,questions.htm , Kim Heldman, pmstudy.com
7. I think the best advice I can offer is practice practice practice. I was able to identify my knowledge gaps in the practice exams. I referred back to the PMBOK for all uncertainties.
8. Pmzilla.com: This site was absolutely instrumental in guiding me to a passing score. I really appreciated all the many Lessons Learned from the new PMPs.
Best of luck to all!
