Study Plan - PMP
Hi All,
Clearing PMP certification was on my radar for quite a while (years actually) so I have now decided to go for it. After some initial research I started preparing for it.
1) For the last 10 days or so I am reading Rita (6th Edition. Is that fine?). Almost there (Risk and Procurement chapters are not covered yet). Have given questions at the end of the Chapter and also from Rita's fasttrack Version 7 (attempted the chapter questions and then the fasttrack for all KA w.r.t. to the chapters in the book) and have scored in the range of 70-88 % in the same.
2) Enrolled for PMP - Prep classes (due over coming and next weekend).
3) Plan to read the PM BoK after finishing Rita (Tried reading it in the first go but found difficult to concentrate).
4) Plan to again come read Rita after PM BoK.
Wanted to seek an opinion from all fellow members who have passed this exam as to whether I am on the right track or are there any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Shashank

Excellent start
Excellent start. Here is the amendments request I would suggest:
3) Stick to PMBOK more and read it multiple time until you are comfortable. Make sure you understand PMBOK IITO and its summery pages.
4) Use Rita fast track for learning purpose, make sure you read and understand the answer explanation. Lots of trick you will understand.
5) Attempt about 2000 questions. Prefer online web portal based test. Some of the good free test you can try like – Pmstudy, Simplilearn, Pmpforsure, TechFaq360, Pmzilla, Examcentral etc
Best of luck.

Thanks for the quick response
Thanks for the quick response Saket. Much Appreciated !
As I said I am currently reading Rita 6th Edition and she does not really put too much emphasis on displaying the ITTO specifically although she does cover them in the subject. Do we need to mug up these ITTOs? I saw a lot of people mentioning tricks to mug them up. ?
I have a friend who reviewed the Rita quite a few times and said that is good enough for the basics. In any case Rita's book is supposed to be based on PM BoK itlself. Isn't it? Are there any specific stuff which are not covered in Rita and we need to review PM BoK for them?
Thanks,
Shashank

Two things for you...
Two things for you –
1. Rita is a reference book based on PMBOK. A reference books is used to understand the bible but bible remains the same and does not have replacement. Keep in mind, the PMI panels while making PMP questions would keep with them PMBOK and just PMBOK. There are very high chances that the PMBOK language, words, tone and emotions also get carried into the question. References book can give you concepts but not the language, words, tone and emotions.
2. IITO – About 80% of PMP questions would be directly or indirectly from IITO. You have to learn those IITO. Some people call it understanding, some say mug up, some say drink it, some say play with it, some say visualize it etc. End of day you have to get those IITO inside your long term memory. You are free to choose your own way.
